I ran the fast coolers on my 5 spd for years but again it did not keep it from loosing some teeth, but the bearings and synchros were like new.

I put the Fast Coolers on about 15K ago and filled to the hole on the passenger side cooler---above the factory driver side fill hole on the transmission itself. I believe I got around 8-9 quarts in it. /? Truck has about 55K total and used to darken the fluid quite a bit between transmission changes. While now at 15K on the current fluid from Mopar, I checked the other night and my transmission fluid is still a light golden honey color.

This mod also forces you to pull the PTO covers at install and you can clean the magnet in the bottom of the transmission while they're off.

I see it as good preventative maintenance and I have had zero problems with shifting or leaking because of the extra fluid.

It may be in my mind, but I thought that the transmission was more quiet with the extra fluid, as it didn't have the launch clatter as bad after.

Regards.

Bob, you don't suppose the lost teeth had anything to do with those couple of days at LACR a few years back?:D:D

Naw :-laf. Trukin for Kids has been on my list every year for quite some time. I had to pass this year for a desert trip. The Sled pulls didn. t help much either. Trucks are made for work and the old 2nd gen has done more than it's share and still going.

I did notice that he offers a $20 adapter kit for the G56 and Getrags, hadn't seen that before.

Sam

Does anyone know what this kit is? My guess is it is metric bolts as the coolers I ordered came with 3/8 x 4" and I believe the Getrag is m8 x 100 ( similar size but metric thread ) Shadrach

I've had them on my 02 almost since new. Came w/ lexan covers, but had cracks and had to put the PTO covers on the FAST Coolers. I get 30K miles on Pensoil transmission fluid. I believe they help cool w/ finned aluminum and extra capacity. I tow 17K Lb fiver.

OK, the extra fluid I can see, but you're telling me that two little pieces of aluminum are going to make any difference in temps of a aluminum cased trans?

Case in point: my trans (NV5600) will run 150*F, however the transfercase won't even be warm to the touch.

steved

Except there is no torque multiplication in 2wd, its just a direct drive... so there shouldn't be any heat.

right, but that doesn't create neat the heat that running gears does, like a transmission or rear end...

My aluminum case trannies in my toyotas always got SUPER hot, and that was with synthetic fluid... I could feel hot heat thru the floor boards.

My crack was in the center from getting hit from gravel or road debris, not from over tightening. I spoke to the inventor of FAST and he said they quit offering w/ Lexan. No real need for the Lexan anyway... just check the dipstick.

There are 2 things I love about my fastcoolers:

1. The clear lexan cover. Instant level check. Love it.

2. The dipsticks with magnetic tips.

Those two alone are enough reason for me. I don't have a temp gauge (yet), but I'm sure steved is correct in his observations.

Can't believe they stopped offering the Lexan! Other than accidentally blemishing mine with acetone (no, Lexan is not compatible with acetone), it's in fine shape.

JHorst, mine (the 3" version) fit fine with no interference at the exhaust pipe.

Last time I had the coolers off I accidentally forgot to re-install the magnet at the bottom of the transmission. At first I was annoyed, but later decided it's actually better this way. I clean the dipstick magnets off about every 3-6k, and if the covers never leak I'll never open the transmission again (God willing).

I had the fastcoolers with the magnetic dipstick when I found those pieces. They were all stuck to the factory magnet. Needless to say, I have no idea if they ever floated on past the dipstick. You're right, it's a pretty good magnet. I always get a fair amount of very fine crap off mine.
Besides, let's face it - you were lucky with those pieces. By all probability they should've destroyed your transmission on their way to the magnet.
Yep. I have no idea how the only damage I had was those pieces and that's it. Part of me wishes I had kept that transmission to see what would happen.
