All of these recent mods, whats wrong with me??????
(Impossible question
)
I bought these at Scheids event, and finally got a little highway time to warm the transmission up so I could change the oil and put these on.
Ya know it must just be me, 'cause I never hear anyone else have as much trouble doing a simple bolt-on job like this. Here's my story,
They don't fit!!!
Two of the bolts that hold the Getrag to the bellhousing are in the way!!!:-{} I really hate to take the grinder to something brand-freakin' new, but what else to do? It wasn't that bad, but I had to grind down a couple of the fins about an inch , just enough to fit around the bolt head. Not as bad as it sounds.
I thought that now in addition to my added lube I would do the one quart overfill also. Now that I read Old Smoky's post I can't believe that I didn't think of using the dipstick hole to overfill as Fast 1 suggested. So what did I do, the shifter method. No problem, but let me ask ya'll one question, How the #@$%! do you get the snap-ring back into place. I fought with it for about 1/2 an hour, until I got smart and stuck a screwdriver in one of the gear shifter holes, and used some c-clamps to hold it down. (Does that make any sense to those of you that have fought with that?) I finally got it back together, and after about 1 1/2 gallons of Amsoil, I'm noticing that my 2nd to 3rd shifts are a little smoother. I usually get a little clash, but I thought that I just wasn't giving the syncro's enough time.
They do look good under there, and I feel good knowing that I've got plenty of lube in the old Getrag, now I kinda wish that I would of bought the clear covers. I put the ugly ones back on that were already there. Hey JFitzgerald, how about you giving me that set you bought so that at least one of us could have the right set-up :-laf
