Fast Coolers

Do these fast coolers work well? Do they drop the temps enough to make the price woth it? I tow a 12,000# Carriage 5er around alot and kinda wonder about my temp. I have a Mag Hytec on the rear with a temp sender and see my temps get as high as 195*, and I have Red Line oil everywhere but the engine. Would you guys recomend these for my application?

I put them on my truck..

I put them on my truck after towing a Travel Trailer a couple of years ago and checking temperatures by crawling underneath the truck and touching the rearend, transfer case, transmission, and engine oil pan. I was suprised to find the transmission was the hottest thing under the truck. I thought that it wouldn't get that hot driving in 5th and 6th gear, but it was quite a bit hotter than the rear axle or transfer case. I figured the added capacity along with the coolers getting some airflow has to help. I think Piers did a temperature test before and after installing the coolers. I would do a search and type in Fast coolers. There should be a lot of information there.

I think that there was a 40 degree drop in temperature towing the same load after the cooler install. For me having 6 qts of oil in the transmission instead of 4 made sense. I do not have guages on the transmission or rearend but with the fast cooler on the transmission and mag-hytec on the rearend I feel like I am helping my truck keep it's cool.

Well, I do have a temp probe in both 6 speed and rear diff. SPA series 2 gauges to be exact. I also went from the OEM lube to Amsoil series 3000 5W-30 synthetic lube in my 6 speed when I installed my Fastcoolers, as well as Amsoil series 2000 75W-90 synthetic gear lube in both front & rear diff. I also have a MagView cover on both diffs, though no probe in the front diff, only the rear.



I do not tow or haul much, so I can not tell you what differences the Fastcoolers make under those circumstances.



I live in the Sacramento area of California, and our summer temps easily get between 105* - 110*+, and driving home up into the Sierra foothills, it puts a small load on the transmission and diffs.



While the truck is moving, my transmission temps always average between 15 - 25* cooler than the rear diff. When you are sitting still, the transmission warms up to be about even with the rear diff. So, in my own experience, on my truck, I say the Fastcoolers work very well.

I saw a 15* drop after installing the coolers. They seem to do something, and the extra fluid capacity can't hurt. I just wish the machining were a little better, they look very home-built. Nothing near the quality of Mag Hytec.

what are you guys running for lube in the 6 speed?? I run Redline MTL and it seems to be really good stuff. Ideas? Would I need to run the cooler even with this oil?

DN... I like the rest of the guys, feel better with TWO more quarts in the transmission. I use Redline MTL in my NV5600

drag race and truck pull. Just because you use Redline, doesn't mean it has more protection.

In addition to the above, they are very strong extruded aluminum. That is why they look a bit different from cast, machined aluminum. If you don't have room for full-depth coolers (1 qt + 1 qt), by all means use half-deep coolers and get the 1 qt. added capacity and cooling effect.
