I am a relatively new member, I have a 98. 5 2500 4x4 5 spd, I have removed the stock muffler, and installed a K&N filter in the stock air box. No other modifications other than a Westach fuel pressure gauge.
Recently after the engine gets completely warm it wants to idle at about 950 RPM instead of the usual 750. When the engine is cold it idles properly. When the engine is warm, if I shut it down and then re-start it, it will idle properly for awhile but in a few minutes works it's way back up to the 950 mark. About a month ago I remembered reading several issues ago about cleaning the Intake Air Temperature Sensor, so I did this and that seemed to solve the problem for about 2 weeks, now it's doing it again. I took the sensor out and cleaned it again 2 days ago and it didn't help this time. The sensor seems to be reading correct according to the values given in the TDR issue and the Haynes Manual.
Has anybody else experienced this problem? Would the 180 thremostat help me at all? I really don't want to go to the dealer even though I'm still under 100,000.
Thanks, erobb
