Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Fast Idle Setup

IS there any way to make a fast idle setup on my 96 ctd, without spending a ton of money?

About $15 and half an hour. I purchased a locking cable from Napa, mounted it next to my overdrive off button. It goes down under the dash and hooks to the top of my pedal assembly with a piece of decorative chain. The chain allows you to give throttle without pushing on the wire.

I just use my foot to get my rpm where I want it, then pull out on the cable and lock it. I wish I had a picture of the setup but I don't.

Wedge a dowel in-between the throttle pedal and the seat, cost you $2 tops if you don't have an old broom handle around. If you have a power seat use it for infinite adjustment.

I purchased a kit from Harold Bowers that I have been very happy with. It is a selenoid that mounts on the timing case (with a bracket fabricated by Harold) that hold the throttle open when energized. The selenoid does not have enough force to push the throttle open, but it can hold it open. Just tap the throttle with your foot, energize the selenoid via a switch in the cab, and you are all set. Cost about $35 and 1/2hr of your time.

I use a tree branch in between seat base and fuel pedal. Free. Been using it for 3 years with no problems... ... .

Swampy, does the branch need to ooze sap to help it stick?

Harold Bowers kit that Cooker is Talking about works sweet. It is also adjustable by threading out the plunger so you can set your own idle rpm. comes with everthing you need including a lighted switch. Great service from Harold also, Cheers

I second that, I have the Bowers system You cant go wrong and its worth the money

just hit the bone yards and pull an AC solenoid off of an older car. i have done this twice now. the last one i bought was $2 if you have a welder and the time.



i did the same thing for my 2low kit. hit the import section and find a valve that is open when not energized. the one i got has a nice little weatherproof rubber boot and mounting bracket with a wire holder too. all for $2 bucks.



Harolds' kit is the best thing to get if you cant make one up yourself. $35 bucks is cheap enough to make it not worth your time.

Todd, Any idea what vehical and which valve it is that you got your 2low switch for? I would like to do this to my truck also and keep it electric, thanks. Tardog

all i know is it was some sort of a Honda. I can remember exactly where the car is just didnt look at the badges. I'll look the next time i'm out there and let you know.



the valve inside the boot is a nipendenso though i checked that out before i grabbed it.
