Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) fast lope and smoke

i have a friend that bought a 95 truck. when it is iddleing it lopes really fast. and when you take off if you stomp it it blows out a big puff then clears right up. what could be done to this truck the pump has been into because the color locks are red and you can just tell by looking at all the satey locks on the pump. its an automatic by the way.

More than likely the stock plate has been moved forward and the star wheel turned out, what is the idle speed if it is low its probably not a lope 12 valves have a really different sound if the idle is set to low.
