At 110K miles I had Dodge replace my A/C compressor. A month or so later, it failed. Service mgr. said it failed because of a faulty electrical connector. They replaced it under warranty of the one they installed. 7000 miles later, but now out of the shop warranty, the replacement failed. After going round and round with the dealer and Dodge, I got nowhere.

Turns out that there is a batch of faulty electrical connectors on the replacement compressors. If yours fails, and now mine does when I go thru heavy rain, just get under the truck and press the connectors at the compressor back together again.

While I will admit it is not the ideal situation, it is for the moment saving spending another $750.

Just did it again yesterday which is what reminded me to share it with the TDR family.

I know guys that are on their 6 and 7th compressors. Might not be the compressor, just the connectors?

I thought the same thing. Imagine my surprise when I crawled under the truck and found everything looked fine. I squeezed them to make sure they were tight and the compressor kicked in.

I dunno... ... ... ... ... ... ... .

When I get more time, I am going to take the connectors apart, clean, WD 40 them and then slide them back together. At that point, I'll take a hard look at zip tying them back together.

In any event, DC knows there is a reliability problem not only with the compressor but also the connectors.

Finally got tired of crawling under the truck to wiggle the connector to get the A/C going. It's the little black square one with the red button.

Took it to a local shop and told them where the problem was. He got under the truck, pulled the pins out of the connector, cleaned and tweaked them a little. Re-installed the pins back into the connector and filled the little connector box with electrical grease.

Have not had another problem. So maybe all the compressors we have been buying were merely faulty connectors??
