You just might be a redneck.

As if that bumper didn’t stick out far enough already!

Well, I’m 7 hours from home and mid-vacation.
Got a cracked transmission adapter housing. :(
Sourced the parts yesterday, have a borrowed garage to work in, so hopefully by tomorrow we’ll be motoring on toward Big Pine.

Have been reading half the night horror stories about poor quality of these aftermarket cast iron housings, but those threads were from 2005, hope all that is in the past. Got the housing from a rebuilder that was recommended by another 2g enthusiast who has one on his truck, so I feel good about it.

Well, we made it through the rest of the trip with no issues. My only gripe with the truck on this trip was the mileage. 13 avg. Not the truck’s fault at all, though. One day when I’m retired I’ll take the two-lane and go 55.

Finally got my hands on the CANZ 9700 recall parts. Hope that tightens up the throttle linkage some.
No issues lately except for blowing #9 fuse on a run down to the Florida Gambler 500. Couldn’t find the short on the roadside, so I ziptied the shutdown arm up to finish the trip down in the daylight. After arriving, I cut the tie and put a fuse in it to continue troubleshooting. Pssshhh. It never has happened again...yet. 7hours home and 3 weeks of daily driving later, it’s hard to trace a ghost!

Monthly update.
Just ordered the parts for a re-gear from 4.10 to 3.54. Had to replace the carrier in the rear Dana 80 for that ratio change, so opted for the Eaton TrueTrac.
Still haven’t installed the throttle recall parts, but did get the bed repainted, and also the topper.

Wow! Worth every penny spent on gearing. Before the swap, 2000 RPM netted 60 mph. Now it’s 71. Stated another way, to do 70 mph used to take 2300ish revs.
Now I just have to figure out how to correct the speedometer. I started a new fuel log, but with the speedo off 15mph at 65-70 the figures will be way wonky. Anybody know how to fix it?
