I got a surplus comp a few months ago. Dell Dimension 4100

It's been upgraded with XP and IE 6. 0 whatever.

Last week, after months of usage, IT desides it can't find TDR. Not just TDR, but any version of it.

This includes:

TDR1.com

tdr1.com

turbodieselregister.com

Any search engine that produces links to the TDR. . It can't find the server.

This old clunker computer here can jump on just fine. It's Win98SE with IE 6. 0. 2800. 1116 I think. .

I ditched my cookies two or three times. . Done numerous restarts, changed security setting and firewall settings.

I can't get any results.

Do any of you Administator Types or Net gurus have any idea whats up?

I really need to get that other comp on here because this one grows mold it's so slow. Kinda like my 12 valve :D

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Something smells like a Virus or spyware. LAVASOFT Adaware Personal (SE) is free to check for spyware. SARC.com has a online scanner (Norton) which works too. Slow computers are very much like 12V engines. They need a lot of TLC... ... . And someone to take the time to "play" with them. (and this from a 1st time diesel engine owner who bought a 3G :)) Feel free to contact a geek (me) via PM I'd be honored to help you get that old PC runniong again.

Numerous free anti-spyware programs available in addition to those mentioned by others you could try Spyware Search and Destroy. My experience indicates that any one program doesn't find them all but the combination of Ad-Aware and Spyware S&D seens to be pretty effective. I would agree with the assessment that the lookup failures point to spyware, especially since the machine was working fine before.

you want the IP. I can do that.

And hell guys, it's the new Dell going crazy, not the OLD compaq.

I have McAfee with a nice little hookup to University of Kentucky to get superdats and redefine my viruses. It's up to date and has found nothing.

I'll run the Adware and spyware ... I have more than one Via U. K. surplus. I need to make sure one of them hasn't hexxed the site I. P.

I hate the idea of (probing of my computers oriphices) by someone else as I did fire up a P2P agent right before this. You all reconfirmed my gut feeling about this but the firewall has kept everything quiet.

Thanks for the help from all.

Well, it's finding the right IP address so the DNS is working. Since it was timing out immediately there's something on your PC that's blocking the traffic before it even gets to your network card. You should have a response from at least the first address (your network card).

still no good.

I'll dig around.

I did have a flag pop up that a WINsock setting had been changed. . I don't know through what means. Could this have an affect?
