Greetings,

I bought a 93 D250 last week. 103K with a nv4500. So, I want to replace the springs/shocks. Based on your opinions, I think I"m going with the Moog 7226S coil springs. What are your chosen shocks? It's my work truck. I'll be loading it up with firewood, lumber, etc. Anyone replaced the rear springs too?

Thanks,

Brian

Hi, Brian. Congrats on your 'new' truck! I have done both front and rear suspension on my D250. I went with Moog in the front and Gabriel shocks. In the rear, I used stock leafs from Right Way Spring in Tacoma, WA and CarQwest Bruiser shocks. Not sure where Right Way got the springs…I don't have any pics, but, boy what a difference to have new susp! Good luck.

I put the 7226S's in the front with Monroe gas? shocks. That lifted the front a bit and made it look right with no change in the ride.

I took out the axle bump stops over the rear axle and replaced them with Timbren mini-bags. They work great at the low loads (mainly the front of the 5er at 1500#) I put to them. The pix are in my gallery under Timbren SES.

Favorite D250 shocks

I got Rancho Rs 5,000 on my 92 W250

best rideing truck i ever drove was a 98 1 ton QC 4x4 with Bilsteins on it

it rode like a cady , even with hitting a railroad cross a littel too fast , the sales lady never felt a thing , there pricey but very nice , with those i wouldnt swap the springs out either

Custom coil springs!

I was on the phone today talking to Tom at Alcan Spring about some springs they made for the W250. Then about him making a new set for the rear of the D250. He informed me of the Timbren set up too, imagine that. But the really cool part of the conversation was when I asked if Alcan made coil springs, he said no, but Coil Spring Specialties does. Here's their number: 785-437-2025. www.coilsprings.com I ordered a set 2" taller than stock and 20% stiffer. I'll let you know how they turn out.

I hav eurn Bilsteins on my last 2 D350s, same suspension as the D250. Made a difference. Still rides like a truck, but smoother and less bouncy than with the shocks that came on it, or the $25 Monroe shocks I had a few years back. They were worse than the worn out shocks that came with it.

I just ordered a set of 7226S for the front, as my old ones have been sagging quite a bit. Front left is an inch-and-a-half lower than front right. Reading about it I remember that I had quite a few springs made from Coil Springs Specialty, back when I was in the parts business. Nothing but first class experience with them. 100% the way ordered and perfect in any way . . .
