What about Keith Richards? There are stylists, and there are masters. David Gilmour is a stylist... . I wouldnt call him a great guitarist, but his 'sound' is unmistakable. One musician that you guys missed is Stevie Vye (sp. ?) who played with Frank Zappa straight out of Berkley Music School. Frank could write stuff he couldnt play, and just handed it to Stevie, who easily ripped off the licks... LOL, amazing!

Another one worth mentioning is Gary Pihl, who used to be with Sammy Hagar and is now in Boston. What a treat it was to see him and Tom Scholz on stage together. If Boston ever tours again, I'm there!
I just downloaded a Yngwie Malmsteen song off napster (I just picked it out at random) called "Tocatta". It's almost like a classical song with strings, and the delicate fingering is somewhat like a Spanish guitar. Wow, he has incredibly fast, nimble fingers.
I used to watch Hee Haw with my folks when I was a kid, and I was always impressed by Roy Clark. I'm a fan of talent, I don't care if it's Classical or Heavy Metal or anything in between. What I can't stand is all this no-talent crap on the radio these days. The singers can't sing and the guitarists just grind out the same chords over and over. I'm starting to sound like an old fart now. Long live rock and roll!

Richard Thompson

100 Greatest Guitarists: Jimi Hendrix | Rolling Stone

My Take on JH and some Rolling Stones

Thousands of guitarists have emerged since his untimely death in 1970 at age 27. But out of everyone who has ever played the instrument, Jimi Hendrix is the all-time greatest, according to a new Rolling Stone list that includes plenty of notable axemen among its voters. Played a right handed guitar with His left hand. It always amazed me that all the sounds that came out of that group was made by three band members and how he could play behind his back, and never miss a beat. A vail of mystery has always surrounded the fantastic sounds that Jimi Hendrix managed to get out of his guitar. To this day people are trying to copy his sound, and many seem to believe that there were some magic ingredient to his sound, but the fact is that he used mostly stock amps, guitars and effects, maybe with the exception of the Octavia, wich was not available to the public at large for some years after jimi's death. Mainly his sound could be reproduced with stock effects and amps. But not many are able to reproduce the sound of Jimi Hendrix, even today. In other words, Jimi Being left-handed, Hendrix found it necessary to re-string the guitar in reverse. In later video, he is often seen playing a right-handed Stratocaster upside-down.

One of my fav Jimi Hendrix songs is EZ Ryder

This is a truly subjective opinion. It would depend on your style of music and your opinion of GREAT. There are different Artist that excel in their own field. These are not in order they are just what comes to mind. #'s 4&5 ARE MY FAVORITE PICKERS They need no accompaniment

Ive always put Satisfaction up there at number one. And its been in that position as long as Ive been hearing about these lists. But Like a Rolling Stone ? Come on. That shouldnt even be on this list.

What really amazes me is that Bob Dylan is listed as the 7th greatest singer. IMO, he is not even in the top 500. I like to listen to him sing his songs. But I sing better than him. And on a list like that, I would expect to see Dean Martin and Bing Crosby in at least the top 10.
