How Many Weapons Are In Your Toolbox?

Scott and BK, I have a Ruger stainless govt target model.

If I had to narrow my collection down to 3-4 handguns, this would definetly be one of them.

KMC,,

Thanks...

I've only seen used around here for about 600 bucks. ugh. .

most look as if they've been used well.

600 bucks NIB wouldn't be the worst thing in the world. The new 44 autoloader looks like the mini14 and mini30. .

I was kinda partial to the cleaness of the old 44 autoloader.

I have a friend that got an incrediable deal on one about 25-30 years ago in Billy Blake (I think that's the store it was years ago... around here, what ever store, they are long gone).

It was mispriced as a 22.

They called him days later to try and get it back "we mistakenly sold you a very powerfull and dangerous rifle... " "not what you thought you bought" and he darn well knew and said "I already shipped it to my brother in Alaska... sorry but it was priced and tagged, I'm sure he'll find it usefull"

He's never shot it... I can't convince him to sell it to me.

Eric,

After I've been through the big three of guns. . I can't agree with you more. Ruger has won me over.

I haven't tried the imports... so can't comment.

I would keep my 2 rugers and 1911. The rest could go.

My colt 1911 hasn't let me down, so I never had to try colt's customer service. For some reason I think they maybe a bit like S&W. . ???

But with the 1911, I think I can drive nails with it and it will still shoot straight. My friends always thought the old 45 was terribly inacurate (like my spelling)... they bet me lunch that I couldnt hit a 1"x2" (about 3' long) stuck in the ground out at 200 yards, they gave me all I had in the clip (target of oppotunity. . it was out there already at the base of the sand hill, luckly could see where my shots hit). Got the hold over right at the 1st shot (had about 2' of 1x2 to work with), next windage and accuracy to overcome. . third shot cracked the 1x2 in half.

It's funny to shot @ 200 yards with the 45... take a bit of time to get down range. . with the dirty cheap reloads in 38. . you can see them going down range at 100 yards.

Anyway, our outdoor ranges have been under attack out here. Seem the folks that decided to build houses next to them, have now decided that ranges don't make good neighboors. And their worried about lead posioning... well I don't think they have anything to loose or worry about..... since they didn't have the mind NOT TO buy a house next to a range.

Geez, here I go again, rambling at the keyboard. . sorry. .

Bob

Ramble on... . The gun threads seem to go long winded because for a few of us it seems to be a favorite topic:D

Down to three... . Hmmm, it's tough but I would probably keep the:

1911 - 1957 national match

P08 Luger - Military1st issue variation - gift from my Dad

Colt Python

If 4 then of course my Ruger Super Blackhawk!

Yea, same thing here. My range is/was lucky enough to purchase all the land surrounding it.

Still, we now have a domocrap governor, and he has an agenda...

My mother worked for the FBI for a few years and it seems that accounting and finance are the things to practice and shine in for entry or acceptance. JMHO

LOL at the ramble on, no doubt that great trucks and gun talk go hand in hand for many of us  . I know from past posts with Eric that he has more than a passing interest in firearms, so I left out the basics stuff, he's already been there and done that.

Before the CTD, firearms were my hobby, along with reloading for all of them. I was fortunate enough to have worked at a local gun shop for awhile after leaving the service and while I was in the Academy for my current job, probably spent way more on new toys then I ever made there. The best part was getting first grabs at some of the used weapons that came into the shop. Here's a few that I have owned, only to let go, now with great dismay... .

Detonics sub compact . 45 auto

HK 91 and 93

several used M-1 Garands

several Colt AR-15's and their variants

Desert Eagle . 44

Sig Sauer P220

My inventory is still considerable, but I wish I had those firearms in the collection now.

BK, yes the PC carbine uses pistol mags, the same as the ones used by the Ruger P90 ( used to be P85).

Scott W.

Ouch, especially on the Garands. I have always thought it would be cool to collect one of every US Military long gun from the Rev War to present, although I guess an AR-15 would have to do for the current day issue~No Class III license here. So far I have a Krag and almost bought an 03 Springfield but it was a little to "sporterized" to have much collector value. Guess I've got a ways to go for that objective, huh?

Oh yeah, 03 A3 Springfield, that would be nice to own for sure. I ran the PAL rifle team for awhile that was equipped by the previous boss with no less than 10 M-1 Garands. We had a blast shooting them at a local 300 Yd. range, made me miss mine real bad.

I always wanted a 03 A3 Springfield that was sniper equipped, with the Unertil (sp, sorry) scope. That would be a blast to shoot I bet.

Scott W.

Dont fret Scott, you can still buy Garands (I think you can buy 3-4 a year now?) AND the ol 03's!!

Theyre a bit more than I got mine for ($160. 00) but you can still get them.

They even occasionally have raffles on sniper 03's, but be prepared with beaucoup $$$.

LMAO on "getting off the topic" because I'm the worst offender. :-laf :-laf

Yes I... there's a funny bone.

I would love to be able to collect what I could of what our armed forces used from WWI and on.

I had a chance to buy an '03 springfield from a buddy that took it with him from the Koren war. He sportarized it though... so lost interest myself cause of that.

Have a friend that worked in an armor in Korea during the war... some fun tales.

I've shot a few AR15's in the past. Can't say I love it... . not as nice as I thought. But you have to appreciate what they designed.

Love to get an M1 G. , M14, 30 carbine and a AR15. The 1st two being my favoriate. Seen deals for the M1's localy once in awhile... but M14 are still up there. All of the M14's I've seen are new from the Springfield Armory.

I was lucky enough to get two M1 Garands and a FNFAL L1A1. The FN is a sweet rifle. A varmit shooting friend of mine put 8 rounds in a 1/4 inch hole at 100 yards with it, after I put a scope on it.

BK, Armscorp makes M1A's too.

I dont know if theyre any good, I like my 2 M1a Springfield Armorys.

One of them I had built by Hook Boutin. He's a vet of 3 wars, (WW2, Korea, Vietnam)and spearheaded the M-14 sniper rifle program in Vietnam.

I believe he's still alive in Georgia. He's very old!! Nice guy, and does Super work!!:D

Eric

Anyone jump in here. . what is (are) your opinions about the Heckler & Koch USP series . I have one in the compact 45 version as my carry gun. but i never hear of them talked about much, and was wondering why? tia

I don't have any hands on experience with the H&K products... But I never saw a bad word about them in print.

I've always been left with the impression that H&K was extremely high quality and pricey.

Eric, what sort of prices does Armscorp sport? Are they repro's or are they putting together whole rifles from a stock of original parts?

But I admit, I would feel like I paid 10 dollars for a conterfit 2 dollar bill knowingly if I bought something other than springfield armory.

Helio, I know that there are a few agencys around using the full size USP's as duty weapons, never heard a bad word about them. Personally, I've never fired the USP, but I did have a HK VP70 ( not manufactured anymore). It was different, to say the least, the front sight was actually a double rail and the "sight" was the shadow between the rails. It was double action only, every shot with a very long but smooth trigger, release was crisp as well. Here's the kicker, it held, count 'em, 18 rounds of 9mm within the magazine, which fit flush with the bottom of the grip. Yep, like an idiot, I out grew the HK and sold it.

The only other HK pistol I owned was the HK P7M8 and I had a HKP7M13 for awhile as well. Better known as the 'staple gun', it was a squeeze cocker. Overall, nice weapon but it got very hot in a short amount of time when shooting. Yep, they are gonners as well  .

What this has to do with the gal and FBI I don't know, but I like talking guns as much as y'all do.

Scott W.

H & K

My Chesapeake Va cops ( I represent their union) just went to the USP in . 40 after a competition with some other top brands- it is an excellent weapon- far better than the ancient Berettas that were rattling around the holsters- would be a good carry choice in the Compact version. I of course prefer the H &K MP5 which in full auto or semi-auto is still the CQB favorite followed closely by the AR-15 carbines- those are what I would carry if it was practicable.

Pretty pricey IMO unless you have a friend with an FFL.

I see standard grade spr arms for $1000. 00 all the time at gun shows. Brand new.

Problem is many of the GI parts are used up and theyre using cast parts in their place.

I know S. A. and Armscorp USED TO use the GI parts. Last I heard S. A. went to a lot of cast parts. Dont know about Armscorp.

If you join the CMP (odcmp.com) you can replace all the cast parts pretty cheaply. If you dont get the parts from them, be prepared!!$$$$$$$
