Just got notice from my Uconnect app that there is a new recall, Checked my VIN also with FCA's website which shows my truck is in it.

FCA says:

In certain circumstances, a build up of pressure and heat inside the transmission may result in transmission fluid being expelled from the dipstick tube, which may come in contact with the turbocharger, or other ignition sources within the engine compartment and lead to a vehicle fire. A vehicle fire can result in increased risk of occupant injury and injury to persons outside the vehicle, as well as property damage.

FCA US will conduct a voluntary safety recall to replace the transmission valve body separator plate and reprogram the Powertrain Control Module (PCM).

Recall Status:

Incomplete but repair parts are not available


Anyone out here having this issue? I'm good here with no issues so far.
 
2019-2020 RFE, they will replace the valve body separator plate and flash the PCM. Estimated release 1st quarter. Stop sale on all in stock vehicles.

Yea, I was on my way to purchase a new 19 6.7 model yesterday when my sales rep called with the news. Said they can't sell it until the recall is fixed. The big question right now is when and will they honor the incentives in effect when the recall dropped.
 
More than likely as time goes by the incentives get bigger not smaller. So your wait could be a good thing.
 
Great... Gotta get messed with a second time.

They got me on the brake caliper recall right as I was to take delivery. Ordered 7/9 and it landed on the dealers lot 10/10, It was being detailed and readied for delivery when my salesman called me and told me about the V98 recall and my truck was in it. Finally after they got the recall planned out and performed, I took delivery on 11/21.
 
These stop sales recalls gotta put a big dent in sales. Especially since there is no date in sight to have a fix. People looking for a truck generally aren't gonna wait 6,8,12, ?? weeks while FCA figures out what parts are needed, suppliers gearing up to build the parts, shipping to dealers and install times.
 
Sometimes it is better to stop sales than run the risk of customer dissatisfaction due to a truck fire on their new diesel truck.

From what I read it is only the trucks with the 68RFE auto that is effective, the transmission valve will allow pressure to build up thus causing the issue!
It seems that trucks with the Aisin can be sold which means the 3500HD model.

Which means the soulless car salesmen will take this into account when dealing with the available Aisin trucks on the lots.....discounts will most likely decrease/stop on those trucks........

It's called liability. Selling "unsafe" vehicles with known recall(s). So due to extreme liability, it's cheaper to stop sales than to face lawsuits. May even be governed by law??

I'm hoping so. Actually called the salesman today and asked him to quote the configuration I emailed to him as a 2020. Figured if I gotta wait, and If it's not much more then the 2019 I was going to get, then lets order the 2020. Should know more tomorrow.
 
Wow they have been building the 68RFE for over 12 years now and they still can't get it right....... What a shame. I certainly hope corporate decides to go with an 8 speed ZF in the future.
 
It's interesting, after thinking about this, my '15 6.4 gasser with 66RFE kept pushing the trans dipstick out. The first time I found it was right after I had it in for and engine oil change, so I chalked it up to a careless tech checking around. But it kept happening. I ended up replacing the dipstick, and it did "seem" to stop it. Now I wonder.

Now that is interesting.. I have a 15 6.4 gasser and have never noticed the trans dipstick pushed out....and I tow an 8000lb 5th wheel and a 9000lb tag trailer.
 
Ozzy, sorry but the 68RFE was introduce with the 6.7L engine in 2007.5. The transmission did evolve from the 545RFE, but had a lot of input from M-B engineers from Germany in designing the gears and control valving.

On a side note: In 2006, the Hydraulic Team that I managed at Cat hired a design engineer from M-B Chrysler, who worked on the 68RFE case. I did learn a lot about the trans from him and this is one of the reasons I purchased my Dodge truck at the time.

I believe that any design in any industry continues to evolve in refinements as it is produced over the years. I know for a fact some improvements do not work out in production use vs the design that is put on paper. Sometimes the component inside a design system is changed either for cost reasons, design improvements, and or ease of manufacturing. Sometimes these innocuous design changes can cause major performance issue when introduced to production.

Just remember nothing is perfect and will have warranty/production issues when designed and made by humankind.
