Featured rigs (again)

I have seen, and questioned myself, why it is that SOME members trucks keep being featured on the Home Page *repeatedly*, while others NEVER seem to make it. This isn't specifically about seeing MY truck there, since it's appearance is most likely meaningless to anyone else but me - but rather a curiosity as to why that feature seems to function as it does...



With that in mind, I've begun keeping a daily log of which members rigs get featured, and will post my findings on a monthly basis just for fun...



Today, Rob Thomas has the spotlite...

It uses a random number generated by a seed of todays date (mmddyy). By giving the seed of the date the number is the same all day long. It is a completely random selection that I have no control over. Choosing a different truck manually each day would be a nightmare which is why I went with the random route. I go through the pictures periodically and select whether a picture can be chosen or not - because many of the pictures in there aren't of trucks. Some members have more pictures of their trucks in there than others which gives them more opportunities to be chosen. I do need to go through the pictures again and sort out the newer pics. There's probably a few thousand in there that I need to sort through.

Steve, this isn't suggesting favoritism or behind the scenes foulplay - merely a curiosity - primarily because random or not, seeing the SAME rig repeatedly, and sometimes within DAYS of each other - and others never, sorta generates puzzlement.



And yeah, I'd still be as curious if it was MY truck constantly popping up, as well!



Maybe ya need a NEW "randomizer"...

Hey Steve - a suggestion...



How's about a special board location for any member wanting to submit their truck for feature consideration to place a pic of their truck - only one submission per member - then the "randomizer" has a far better chance of selecting non-repetitive photos - especially when various members have multiple rig photos in their personal photo albums.



Then, guys NOT wanting their trucks included won't see them and those who DO will all have an equal chance?

Hey, this isn't ABOUT me!



OR *my* truck!



It's about working towards a method that prevents seeing SOME trucks featured WAY too often, while others NEVER seem to make it - and IF it seems to any that my comments are intended as a personal whine, I'll IMMEDIATELY be happy to completely remove ALL (2) pictures of my truck from the reader's rig gallery in order to assure it is NEVER seen in the featured gallery!



Like I said, this isn't ABOUT me, never was - dunno how I can make that any clearer!
