I am looking at gas slotted an dimpled EBC rotors. I tow a very heavy 5th wheel (14K) and need new pads and rotors while I save $ for a trans upgrade and an ehaust brake. Can these rotors be turned when these pads wear out and how are they at handling heat and not warpping? I am looking at PFC carbon metalic pads to use with them. I know it's not the ultimate set up but I am saving for a EB.
 
Sure Cross drilled, slotted or a combo of both can be turned. I'm not to familiar with the EBC rotor, I did look at their web site when I was looking myself for some new rotors. They are a known brand and will most likely be just fine. I think as long as they are built with an emphasis on Heavy Duty, and not just for being quick, as in light, they will do fine. That was my concern when I was looking for a re-placement. I wanted to improve the trucks braking system, without compromising the load carrying or long life ability. I found there were many rotors to choose from, some were just go fast rotors, while most were Ok. I decided to go with Raybestos Super Stop rotors, they are Extreme duty rated, with internal venting vanes. They also come cross drilled and gas slotted. I installed them along with the EGR pads, lines and synthetic fluid. I also used their shoes and over sized rear wheel cylinders, the combo dramatical improved the truck ability to brake. I sometimes tow a 16,000lb gooseneck trailer, and I wanted, need it to improve the brakes. The pads have worn very well and they are almost dustless. The rear brakes now grab with the new larger wheel cylinders. There is no way to explain the improvement of the truck braking system sufficiently without trying it for yourself. You sound like you are after the same thing I was, research the various brands that offer what you want, go to their home web sites, make calls to the tech lines and be sure that your money is being spent well. The added effort now will pay off 10 fold later. Good luck

I am running the EBC rotors.

Their rotors are decent.

But their pads, forget it.

I purchased them from Brakes-R-Us.

They cracked, crumbled, and squeeled bad in just 500 miles of use.

They were still under warranty, but EBC said that was normal wear.

Maybe after 40K miles, yea, but not after 500 miles.

Pure junk.

Avoid EBC and Brakes-R-Us.

I'll second the EBC rotors, I've been very happy with mine. I warped a cheap set of chinese rotors in two months, the EBC's are holding up great.

2WD, eh? If the 98. 5 is the same as the 99 (which I think is true), the 2WD rotors are integral with the hubs, hence the cost. The $150 rotors for 4x4 are only the rotors, and you have to drive the wheelstuds out of the old hub/rotor assembly to put the new ones on.
