Howdy Cerb, it smokes white when cold & runs fine when warm. Did injectors (+50HP from Injectors Direct) at 275 K or so and 305 K now. Drained reservoir and replaced fuel filter after it started this crap.

Everything is stock on the engine other than the injectors. It runs fine when warm and planning on driving it on the 60 mile each way commute for a couple of days next week.... Just thinking I should run the Power Service through it for a tank.

It is not rolling smoke at low throttle.

I appreciate your advice.

No codes on the truck at friends shop today on his Snap-On Solus scanner. He said ask you guys if 14# of boost is normal at idle. His 2001 is zero psi at idle. He is not as familiar with HPCR.

Thanks

14psi is MAP pid, not boost pid. At sea level they are 14.7psi off from each other. As you go up in altitude they get closer to each other. So on MAP 14 would be fine.

I had to go back and read the thread, sorry I went of track. I would do an injector cleaning then double does the fuel with 2 stroke oil and power service for a while and see if it changes anything.

My luck with the BMS injectors was excellent but I run an additive mix every tank. I would hesitate to say injector but if there are no codes and it is coming and going with the misfire it sort of indicates and issue with one or more. I would try the cleaning and double dosing of additive first.

Thanks.. I will let you know how it goes. It sucks driving my Ferd Turdus back-up commuter in the meantime. It doesn't like 7% grades.

White smoke on start up is really excess fuel or low compression causing unburned fuel to go out the exhaust. How low is the ambient temps when it smokes cold? If in the 20's-40's check the grid heater operation.

60F this AM when I started it to go to friends shop...rough for about 1 minute & white smoke for about 15 seconds.. He cranked it in his shop after it sat for 10 minutes, took about 2 seconds of cranking to start.. and he said it sounded like an "empty cylinder". That makes me think leaking or stuck injector at idle. Idles fine when run for a short time and no noticeable loss of power when driving.

Runs great on the road and only puts out black smoke when under heavy throttle.

Problems like this have provided me with strong shoulders and a flat forehead.

The ends themselves and cables. I just replaced the hot cable to the start from the driver side battery and all the cable ends and terminals due to some weird idling, surging, and other strange behavior. All the ends were bad and the hot cable corrosion under the covering all the way thru. The ECM does not like it when the power is dirty.

Thanks, cerb...what did the corrosion look like, white stuff under the cable ends?

No, the typical green corrosion you see on copper wire. Cut the cable ends off and oops, that is not good. It was green and discolored on all the strands at least 6" inside the sheathing.

Looked at the cables and no bulges in the wires near the terminations. One wire on the + side on drivers side battery has an exposed end and is clean.

Just for the heck of it I pulled the MAP sensor today and cleaned it with electronic parts cleaner, lubed the O-ring and re-installed. I will start in the AM when it's cold to see if that did anything.
