I was driving to lunch on Thursday and was being lazy and shifted from 3rd to 5th. I shifted into 5th, spooled the turbo a little bit before I let the clutch fully engage. As soon as the clutch locked up it popped. I thought it just popped out of gear but when I put it back in 5th and released the clutch it just coasted. I try 4th gear and it worked fine and so did the rest of the trans, so I automatically think "5th gear nut". I took out the trans tonight to take a look. After pulling the transfer case off to expose the fifth gear, I notice that the nut is still in place and looks perfect. I next look at the end of the other shaft only to find that it indeed is the piece that broke. About 1. 5 inches from end, it just sheared in two. So what are my options at this point? I believe it is the main shaft(correct me if im wrong), so what kind of cost am I looking at to repair it?

the main shaft is the shaft that is on the output side of the transmission going to the transfer case. The 5th gear nut would be on that shaft. I take it this is not the one you broke?? If you snapped it the truck would not be able to move.
