Fellow member battles dealer and gets my lift pump replaced

I need to thank Mike Clay for going through a whole lot of trouble get my liftpump replaced. As I posted a couple of weeks back I was having intermittent loss of fuel pressure. I had taken it to the dealer but at that time it gauged out fine. Four days later my pressure dropped again while going to the NW Bombers outing at Pendleton,Ore. We were able to check the pressure with another gauge and verified that my gauge was accurate. Monday I called the dealer and finally talked to the service manager Tuesday. He became very defensive and to make a long story short " We checked once and it was good and will not check it again" plus " What my gauge reads doesnt mean a thing". Last night Mike and I traded trucks. Naturally the gauge readings returned to normal. This morning Mike discovered that by bumping the starter a few times the pressure would drop. He tooked to the dealer explained the problem and left. Upon picking up the truck he found out that they had decided to reflash the ECM for the oil pressure TSB which was done a few months ago. Plus they said the fuel pressure was fine. Mike then sat in front of the dealer for about 20 miniutes bumping the fuel pump until it finally showed 0 pressure. Needless to say the ears were ringing at the dealership. :-{} They acknowledged that the pump had an electrical problem and the would have one installed Friday. They had to get one from another dealer since the one they had,whichwas supposed to be for my truck, was put on another truck. The pumps are on 40 day backorder. Thanks again Mike C

I recently had about the same problem but was 60 miles away from the 5 screw stealer when my pump failed, the stealer said drive it down here and we will test it and if it fails we will order one not



I called my Cummins guy and he had one on the shelf so I went and got it and was installed and done befor no time at all. This is where the story gets good, last week the stealer called me about owner satisfaction for our Neon and he found out about the lift pump before I was done and how dis-satisfied I was, he said fax me the bill and I will remburse you ... ... ... ... ... ... ... we will see if they pull thru, I sure hope so ... ... ... F/P gage is a must to monitor vitals



I would be very nervous without mine, I consider the fuel flow of my CUMMINS to be the same as my blood flow and I would definatly want to know if my blood stopped flowing :{

Dan, my local dealer is Mark Thomas Motors here in Albany,Oregon. The truck had to go 100 miles north to get fixed. I give Gresham Dodge in Gresham,Or credit for taking the effort and time to fix the problem. They had to get a lift pump from a dealer in Vancouver,Wa. Mike Clay has had great service from Gresham Dodge and they proved it with mine.

So Mike - I bought my 2002 Ram from Withnell in Salem, ever have any work done there ? Just need to know what the quality is If I go back there for any work

I did not buy my truck at Withnell, but I know one of the service writers very well... . almost 18 yrs. His name is Don Post. He is a very nice guy and very customer service orientated.



Also, Withnell is one of the few dealers that actually have a knowlegable diesel mechanic. His name is Roddy. He has been with them for many years and is highly respected among several private mechanics I know in the area.



He can be reached by phone... . the dealership kinda worships him, and gives him a lot of lee-way. This guy knows the Cummins. He gets uncomfortable if you start talking bomb talk with him, 'cause as you could expect, the dealers get constantly hammered by DC reps. about bombing. Best to consider him a stock truck problem solver. This also means he can spot a bomb a mile away.

Alright, now you guys have me worried. How ,what, where , do you do this fuel pressure guage??Where do you put the guage, how and where do you install the sender, where do you get the guage etc,? Enough questions?? Thanks for help.

Hemiville - here ya go, check out this thread https://www.turbodieselregister.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=6113 . On your 01. 5 the physical connection will be different - you'll need to either connect to the schraeder test valves or put a set of tapped banjo bolts (Geno's sells them as Ray's banjo bolts) on to attach to. Others could let you know what you need to do for the physical line connection on your truck - Briarhopper has done it and sells the necessary fittings to connect it on your truck.
