Fender Flares

What brand of fender flares? Want max coverage and no rust under them.

Bushwacker Pocket Flares work well for me. They have 2 1/2 inches of coverage I think. I have rims with 5 1/2'' backspacing with 35'' tires and they are about even with the outside of the flares which is where I want them. IMO if the tires doesn't ''fill up'' the flares you have too much flare. These fit up well on my truck. I have had them off the front a few times to remove the fender liner and you can see where they fit up against the truck and they have been on a year or so. Whether the lines will polish out in the future should one decide to take them off, One needs to consider that. I don't see any rust problems the way these BWs fasten on. Frankly I am suprised they don't blow off as they mount with the screws that mounts the inner fender liner to the fender in the wheel opening.

Hey John, Do the BW's also use 2 sided (3M?) tape to hold them on or is it just screws?

B/W Pocket Flares

These flares have a soft rubber slotted round sort of cord that has an adhesive in the slot. You get about 20 ft. and have to cut the cord to fit the flare length and it goes on where the top back side of the flare rests against the fender. This is the part that I said will possibly kind of scuff the paint finish. There is no adhesive involved in mounting these and they are easily removed and reinstalled. The pockets have stainless steel dummy socket head bolts that bolt in before they are put on that make them appear to be bolted to the fenders. They are not cheap but IMO the best looking choice out there.

get the power wagon flares. it will be like getting a new truck, i had mine installed last summer, and it looks awesome compared to the stock look. i think Geno's had them at one time, i got mine from the dealer, they were about the same price.

3M paint protector venture shield film.

Have it put on the body just above the point where the fender flare goes all the under neath to stop any dirt build up from just laying on the paint. Works for fender flares, mud guards ANYTHING that makes contact with the painted parts of the truck.

It's not that cheap but you get what you pay for with this stuff. I use it under everything.

I would be careful about fender flares. I had bushwacker fender flares on my truck and it scratched the paint down to bare metal where they contacted the fender. I ended up line-ex the fenders and rocker panel on my truck looks awesome and I'll never have to worry about scratches or rust in those areas!

The only way to prevent damage under a flare is to put something under it to protect the paint - linex, 3M or other. I've got Mopar flares on the 06 and they look nice but dirt collects under them. Wish I had just linex'd them when I did the rockers. On my 01, I used Al's liner and did the bed, rockers and fenders. It was a pain to tap but looks good. On the 2nd gen. , the fender has a lip you can use to tap a good line. Not there on the 3rd gen. so you'd have to free hand it. I'm not that good and I doubt my linex guy is either.



On my brother's 06, we did something different. He bought it used and it has those ugly chrome flares. We had those linex'd with the rockers/bumpers and it looks really nice. Nice accent, subtle and not too big or flashy ; very unique. These smaller flares don't require a huge tire to look right either.



Unless you want the look of a flare, I say go linex. Shop around, price can vary considerably.

I put the Bushwacker Extend-A-Fender on my "04. I run tires that eat rocks and then spit them on the paint. These flairs have a 2 1/4" coverage. I know what your concern is about the rubbing of the flair being as bad as the rocks themselves but the paint was taking a pounding. I just try to keep the interface between the flair and the fender as clean as possible. Taking them off once a year to clean behind them seems OK to me.

The Bushwackers come with a soft rubber trim to attach to the flair and go against the fender. These flairs stick out aways. I have 35's on stock rims. The back ones looked too much at first. Now that I'm used to them they look fine. I'll try to post a pic tomorrow.

Very Nice thanks. I am going get them in and evaluate from there. I am going to rino/linex my bed and bottom panels. Can you rino/linex all the way under the flares?

It's your truck. I suppose if you knew were the line of the flair was going to be and masked off the rest of the truck, you could do that.
