Well, I'm not an economist or financial advisory, but I think Ford is a good investment because their stock is DIRT cheap. I have absolute confidence that Ford will not be going away anytime soon, which means you're essentially guaranteed that their stock price will rise, if you wait long enough.



That's the way I figure it, anyway. Could be flawed logic.

It is sad to see american car companies struggling the way that they are. I am all for competition between businesses but something needs to be done to get these guys on the right track on put out good longlasting, reliable, products. I do agree that they probably won't be going anywhere any time soon but ford cant keep putting their foot in their mouth, they need to make some good business decisions.....

I think Ford's biggest problem is they're a company wholly without direction or leadership. The turnover rate in their executive ranks is utterly ridiculous. And how many times have they changed their "way forward" plan?



Bill "Twinkie" Ford finally stepped aside, and that's good. Now if they could only get someone with some charisma and good ideas.

I'm curious. Do you mean financially solid or ???? Toyota is in the middle of an interesting time and I'm anxious to see how they weather this. They recalled more vehicles than they sold in '06 worldwide. Lots of quality problems. I have no doubt that they will fix their problems. I should be buying Ford stock right now.

Financially Toyota is rock solid. I'm watching their stock and they are doing nothing but going up. You buy all the Ford stock you want, I'm going to buy Toyota stock. Toyota makes good and reliable vehicle. Okay so they have a massive recall going on now, but they don't have recalls that often. At least they will take care of their problem.

I would rather see Ford and GM do better then Toyota and Honda because we need that industry in our Country. But they keep putting out junk and as long as they keep making junk, I'm going to buy Toyota.

Toyota makes good and reliable vehicle. Okay so they have a massive recall going on now, but they don't have recalls that often. At least they will take care of their problem.

They have been doing silent recalls or just plain ignoring the problems. There is a brewing scandal in Japan right now over this but I doubt anything will come of it over here. Media can't bust the quality myth because it might give American companies a boost.



Dad just lemoned another Toyota. This one an 06(?) RAV4 4cyl. Apparently you pull out in traffic, and the throttle fails to respond. After repeated trips to the dealer and almost getting plowed multiple times, someone else is enjoying it now. Dealer says its a common problem but no-one can fix it...

My wife and I have owned Toyotas for 7 years and have never seen a recall yet. My kids have had six Toyotas for many years and have never seen a recall either.

Scot is right, there have been a rash of Toyota recalls, especially last year. Nevertheless, it doesn't seem to be having much effect on their reputation.



From my point of view, it seems like the mainstream automotive press (C&D, R&T, Motor Trend, etc) don't report too much on the recalls. The more "insider" press (Automotive News) does quite a bit of reporting on it.



Since most people don't have access to the more insider-type publications, most people don't notice the recalls.



To their credit, Toyota has owned up to recent quality problems. They've been straightforward about it, whereas I would expect Ford or GM to be likely to "deny, deny, deny, throw blame, deny".



Most people agree that Toyota's recent quality issues stem directly from an excessive growth rate. In the rush to produce more and more (in order to become king of the world, despite Toyota management denying that as a goal), they've allowed quality controls to slip a bit.



Their candor in the matter is refreshing, however, and I wish them luck in solving the problems.

After buying all three makes over the years and the last American auto a 93 Dodge Shadow, my wife refuses to buy any American auto now and I,m mad about it because I want to buy a Dodge Magnum with the SRT8 package. They only have themselves to blame for this and I can't defend them because it's true that their cars fall apart, but Dodge trucks with CTD can't be beat buy any manufacture including Toyota.



My wife doesn't have any say in the truck I buy and she thinks the D/C trucks are dependable and she has a 2001 Tacoma

spend some time in a toyota, if you have a talant for decerning what is a fine car, you will notice the yota is engineered to a level that american auto companies can't fathom, I have worked for several compaines that have large fleets of vehicles, as well as owned and driven many different cars of different makes, back in the mid 90's GM's cars where garbage may still be now, but anyways take the astros, S-10's berettas, luminas etc, they all sucked, one day you would get in and the door handle would fall off in your hand, or some control knob on the dash would fall off, alternators sucked among other things, add this to all the rattles, never knew of anyone who had a GM truck made from 88-98 with over 75k on it that didn't need the auto trans at some point in that time period replaced. ford, also has its issues look at the taurus line in particular, head gaskets, trannies, and wireing problems, after owning a '99 windstar that we spend 6k in repairs on to keep it running for 2. 5 yrs, finally sold it with 75k on it, will never own another ford because of that. Dodge has been great to me, however everyone that I have ever known that has owned a caravan mini van (and thats alot here in utah) has had to replace the auto trans.



bottom line, people are sick of buying garbage!!!! we are sick of the american car compaines who continue to produce, caravans, taurus's, or GM cars with known problems that could be fixed in subsequent years, we are sick of low resale values. you can't sell people crap over and over again and keep expecting them to buy it, unless its got a cummins diesel in it, I will not buy anything but hondas and yotas!!!

Even the Toyota's are having issues: my wifes on her second sequoia... . it's an 06 and it just got it's second recall... . her 03 blew the transmission with 32k on it... . and both have a defective back power window motor design... . and the 06 now has a 5 spd auto... . they couldnt even change the dash to allow 1,2,3,4 and the od button..... they now have 2,3,4 and od..... and a seperate button for 1st gear selection... . yeah the resale and quality are good, but you pay for it at time of purchase... dont get me wrong, it's probably better than the equivalent american suv from ford or gmc... . but it's not a bullet proof design/execution

I have a 2003 Toyota Avalon and my wife has a 2003 Toyota Camry. My wife's Camry has had brakes, master cylinder and booster tank replaced. The Avalon has not been in the shop. I asked the question, why has the Camry had repairs and the Avalon has had none, are they not about the same car. He said that the Avalon shares most parts with the Lexus, which are better parts. The point I am getting at is that the Avalon is the best kept secret. It cost $5K more then the Camry, but much less then a Lexus. The Avalon shares the same body with a Lexus and has far more upgrades then the Camry.



CumminsCowboy, I too agree with you. I have had it with all GMs and Fords. They are junk. I also love my 1st and 2nd Dodge/Cummins. I would like to see our American Auto Industry produce a vehicle comparable to a Toyota because we need our auto manufacturing industry, but until they do, I'll keep buying Toyota and Honda. The Toyotas we have were made in Georgetown, Kentucky and my Dodge was made in Mexico.
