Have posted the fix $$$$ for fifth gear nut loss on 12v side and here in the past.
I'm not charging for the results "UNLESS" you and anyone else that uses my fix send's me a voluntary $1. 00 for R & D Including STANDARD TRANSMISSION<for every kit they send out with there new "extended splined shaft" (KIT FORM) ...
THE KEY is to replace the fifth gear nut with the NV's third nut design(looks like a castle nut-without the slots) ((cone shaped)
(longe nosed) how ever you want to describe it. .
Clean the threads of the shaft with ether/brake clean/napth/(anything to remove the oil film--Apply loctite(red)the current # is 27200 " NV" Latest #... ... . no matter nowever BUT must be RED.
Apply to shaft and nut Torque to MIN. 300 as in the books +/- 20--
THE KEY with a large center punch --around the diam of the nut ,stake the nut min 10-nowever many times you wish to the shaft,using a 2 1/2 lb hammer or larger. . And put your back in to it. . REMEMBER,you never want it to come lose again.
The head of the 4500 knows my name and VIN
and have passed on info to the 5600 guy.
My only goal is to cure the problem's and i only to do the fix once. . MORE POWER!!!!!
Be it HP or holding power. Super lock-nut.
The question the 4500 guy was haveing was was the 5th gear rattling on the short splines/OR/ was the nut comming loose First??
Having 700+++ on my 96 (to Date) with the 2nd update(at time of mfg. ) come loose(Built date aprox May) come off at 32k --reinstalled same nut & 5th gear in Ocala Fl
which I must admit came off 260k+ later tryed the the split nut fix, WITH TO BE FAIR na new main shaft,(FIELD TEST)which failed 49k latter-- Got the Third fix nut (part # ?? NV 1875)??? (GET it from 1 800 std tran)
about $ 20. ) Who know's from blum's in OK.
if you want to go to the longer splined shaft it is from my wallett(NO EXTRA CASH)
Now do the math !!!! How long has my 5th gear been in. (GOT THE INVOICE'S TO BACK UP) tac????????????????????????????????

Another note . while your down there call South bend clutch,Mishawaka in OR if it is after 5 in Elkhart IN and you have your wrenches out & have remove'ed the flywheel a call me for a flywheel swap with a pilot bearing/bushing which is the last you will need.
