I have a 32' 5ver bunkhouse. I welded a hitch to the rear and can either put the bikes on a hitch rack or I have a utility trailer that I tow behind for stuff like that (Class A req'd). I don't care to put bikes inside but have done it from time to time. I don't want to tear up the interior.

Another option is to get a fifth wheel toy hauler that has a rear garage section with two beds in the rear section.

It's well worth the money. I purchased it long before we purchased our new 5er and studied every detail. With the help of the guide we made an intelligent choice and used all the negotiating tips to get the best price.
 
I pull a 29 ft TT and have no problems at all the thing I like about the TT is that I have the bed of my truck for all the other el toro poo poo that goes along with camping. Dont have to find spots for chairs and BBQ inside the trailer. Dont know if its experience or what but I have no problems with big trucks just know that there is going to be a reaction when I pass or they pass and you should be aware of its coming. (I have been a truck driver for 33 yrs more than some less than others). As for sway from wind in so caif we have winds from hell and the addition of two sway bars from trailer to hitch stops all but the BIG winds. As for hooking up just a little practice (and dont listen to the wife) and youll be just fine. And besides we all need someone to laugh at at the campground. I've owned ten travel trailers from an inexpensive Fleetwood Prowler to a high-end triple axle Airstream since 1972 and all of them served a purpose. For the past six years I've owned two different fifth wheels of the larger, heavier variety.

TTs are lighter and IMO preferred for quick trips which are oriented more toward travel than staying at destinations. Fifth wheels are larger, heavier, more expensive to buy, and put more stress on the tow vehicle but the larger ones with slide rooms are extremely roomy and comfortable at your destination. Fifth wheels are unquestionably preferable for full-timing or extensive RVing.

Fifth wheels are more stable while towing in adverse weather and on slippery pavement but are more challenging to learn to back into tight spots due to the pivot point and greater length.

Storage of lawn chairs and outdoor equipment in fifth wheels is rarely a problem. They all have large basement compartments.

Fifth wheel trailers are also very easy to equip with built-in generators. They usually fit into the front of the basement compartment. Mine has an Onan 5. 5 kw propane burner that is operated from inside the trailer. It is nice to punch the start button and then activate two large 15k btu air conditioners when the heat and humidity are high when stopping at the end of the day or just to use the microwave to prepare a quick meal. Generators are rare in TTs except for some toyhaulers.

I occasionally wish for a medium=sized TT for a quick trip with just my dog along but for extended stays or extensive travel I love the big fifth wheel.

Ultimately only you can decide what is best for you.

thanks for the info. it looks like i should keep the dry weight,to 10,000- 11,000 lbs. for a 06 auto. or 13k max total to be on the safe side. kp
 
You can by a 2 wheel trailer that hooks to your trailer . Both wheels will spin around when you back up. The one I saw had 2 large hogs on it. it becomes part of your trailer.
 
do your home work on 5thwheels. some are four season 5thwheels and s0me are weekenders. some havei chniese frames. i have a carriage cameo,we like it
 
There is one big difference between a TT and a 5th Wheel that has not been mentioned. You won't split your head open on the pin box of a TT. I hate to admit it, but I've done this several times. No, I'm not the brightest bulb in the box!! Beware--don't wear a cap with a brim on it while working under the front of a 5th wheel--it impairs your vision. My family bought me a helmet. The 5th wheel pulls easier than the TT and also won't jackknife as fast when backing.

MAleshire, you're absolutely correct. I've done that a time or two with my ball cap on.



Tie a bright color ribbon to the pin and let it hang down to the ground. That has helped me.
