Hitch update- FYI

I see in the new RvView mag that comes with the CampingWorld stuff has got an ad for a king pin stabilizer at a pretty good cost, plus only a buck for shipping. Do any of you guys use one of these, and do they do a good job? We've had our camper since 97 and have managed to live without one so far, but I hear they can make a big difference. We got a 97 Jayco Designer, I think kinda like RustyJC unit. Thanks for any input.

My 2000 Fleetwood 30' 5er came with one of the 2 legger ones. Yes it does help take out some of the side to side wiggle, but you still have the front to back wiggle.

Keep wax on the silver part, and Amsoil HD MP (metal Protector) on the slide part and it will stay nice for a long time.

(PS: the Amsoil HD MP works great on the slide parts as well. Its a spray on wax type stuff, I have not had a problem with rust on any moving parts yet, and it cost 1/4 as much as the spray Camping world sells for slides).

We use the three legged type and it does a great job of stabilzeing the camper, keep in mind the the more spread out the legs are the better it stabilizes.

The one advertised from camping world looks like an excellant buy expesially because you can adjust the top for different heights along with the legs, you don't always park where it is level.

I use the camping world tripod, and that along with the two BAL stabilizers that came from the factory on the back make my alpenlite feel like its almost on a foundation. I can not stand to stay even one night in the trailer without it on.

I use a tripod on the hitch and two screw jacks on the rear. The tripod really makes a difference. Well worth the money as far as I'm concerned.

I saw the same add yesterday and ordered one. They were very cooperative, include a step support free, and one buck shipping. Also bought two slide out supports and he threw them under the one buck shipping. He did say that they had received 60 orders that day alone, and he was talking to his boss about restricting sales --- so if you want it, you better act quickly. He also said that they were zinc coated, which is MANDATORY for me.

Good Luck;

The Try-pod is a good thing to have . The slide out supports is not, do not use them as the slide could be caused to jump the track or cause undue stress to slide not to mention that if you retract the slide and the supports are in place ? No one that I know of would use them the slide is supported and built to not need a extra support. Get your money back on the supports . Use the try-pod with one leg facing the trailer other two side side to side stops most of wiggle. Ron in Louisville Metro KYOo. Oo. Oo. :D

Read the abov e post again. The slide-out supports are not worth the free postage. The tripod is great; and it will stabilize it in high wind. Take some weight off front landing gear. I have a different one than camping world, but same principle.

I use the two legger also,but I find the adjustable chocks which fit between the wheels(not the type that sit on the ground) stabilize the 5er more.
