Fill Up My Fish Tank

I pulled the yellow lever on my fuel filter yust to see if any water would come out. Man o man, I could have filled up my pond! well maybe a carnavel cup with a gold fish. My water light didn`t flash but it seemed that alot of water came out. So my question is this, how much water must be in the system (h2o/fuel) before the dummie light goes on and why does smell/film up as if diesel poured out? And yes I fill up at Sids truck stop here in Sparks, NV. I only have 5200 miles on my new truck. Should I replace the filter as well. Thank you Genos for a $12. 00 filter vs. Reno Dodge at $41. 00.

smd, the filter assembly seperates water but does not contain it seperatly, diesel fuel will continue to come out until the assembly is empty. extend your drain tube and drain it in to a clean glass container and you will be able to see the water at the bottom if there is any. I have done this regularly and have never found any.

did you drain the "stuff" into a glass jar or other clear container?



hopefully you did.



just draining it on the ground, the diesel fuel tends to look water clear.



after i drain mine into a glass jar, i let it sit on the bench for about 5 minutes to make sure there is no separation point between fuel and whatever.



so far after 15,000+ miles, i have never seen a drop of water in my fuel



how much total volume did you drain out? if it was more than say a baby food jar amount and most of it was water, it's probably time to change the filter and find a different station.

Just one more reason I don't fill up at Sids. At a minimum I would pull the fuel filter and take a look. Couldn't hurt to change it either but that's up to you.

Be prepared to have an extra fuel filter on hand as your old o-ring most likely will never seal correctly again once removed.

as a side note: Reno Dodge is a money pit and their sales associates don't know jack about their product. I would avoid driving by the place it was so terrible when I lived in Reno.



I get the light every once in a while and I just give it a five second count every so often. I haven't seen the light in over 10000 miles.

I'm not trying to argue with you Mark, but I must say in my 7 years of owning a Cummins equipped truck I have never gotten a bad load of fuel from Sierra Sids. What has been your experience that has now kept from using their fuel?



Also where do you fuel your truck?

It took a very long time to fuel up at Sids. I told that to the guy (diesel truck) next to me and he agreed with me. He stopped soon after cause he was worried about a bad pump filter or bottom of the tank slime. Never a concern at Boomtown Chevron/truck stop, very busy plus I see refueling trucks there often. Also good luck at Arco next to Carson RV in Carson City. Mark
