After changing the fluid in my transmission and only being able to put about 4 qts in, I read the recent blurb in the TDR about filling it from the top. This allows an additional 2 qts. How do I remove the shift lever though? Do I need a special tool? I got the boot off and the knob, but not the lever. Anybody else do it this way?

You have the boot off, there are some little bolts that hold the shifter on to the top of the transmission, remove them. The shifter is siliconed onto a 1/4" rubber seal so it might come off a little hard. I would re-silicone that gasket or you might have fluid leaking. I would only add one extra quart.

When I fill mine, I drive one side on a small hill in front of my house to incline the truck along its axis to tilt the fill side up. Put in as much as you can when level then drive it to where an incline is available then top it off.

I just jack one side of the rig in the garage atleast 6" and just fill till she overflows. I personally cant stand taking that console apart around the shifter.
