Anybody who has done the relocation of the stock lift pump back bythe tank, put a screw on filter in front of the pump? How did it work?

Thanks

I run a screw on AFTER the pump. The point of relocating the pump was to make it push instead of pull. I put the pump about as close to the tank as I could and the filter just ahead of it. Works fine, I have about 80k-100k on the system. I figured that there is a screen in the tank and the inlet of the pump as well. That is good enough for the factory and should do a decent job. I added the screw on because I run used motor oil in my fuel and wanted some added filter capacity. I use a primary filter that is a little more open than the original filter and retained the original filter as a secondary filter. I often get 25k-30k before the fuel pressure starts to drop and I change both filters.

The screen mesh in the fuel tank module is like a silk material or membrane. Thus a prefilter won't do you much good. It won't help the pump live longer. Just stick with the stock final filter after the pump and you'll be fine.

Head to the dealers/shops for the big rigs in your area. They will have an assortment of filters and bases to mount them. I use a 1st stage filter that was common for semis with the big Cummins motors for years. They are reasonably priced and easy to find. I'll try to remember to send the part number of what I run later.

I encourage you to mount the pump as near the tank as possible and the filter after it. If you have the filter between the tank and the pump and it plugs due to a tank of dirty fuel, it will starve the pump and could cause it to fail.
