I got a couple of questions regarding oil and fuel filters for my 93 Club Cab. I have used Wix brand filters since I bought the truck new. However, since joining this group a few months ago, I have noticed that Fleetguard is talked about both in the discussion groups and the quarterly magazine almost exclusively. Are they better than the Wix and should I switch to Fleetguard and, if so, what are the part numbers applicable for my '93? There is a Speedway truckstop about 3 miles from my house and they sell only Fleetguard, so it would be convenient to get them.

Also, I have a K&N air filter. In the recent quarterly magazine, I read something from a member talking about that they quit using the K&N and went back to a regular air filter after talking to a Cummins rep. at one of the Turbo ralleys. Does anyone know what this is in reference to and is there a problem the K&N's? Or am I OK using mine.

Thanks for all the help I have received so far.

Fleetguards are talked about because Cummins owns the company so they want to sell more of their own products.
I use Baldwin for oil and fuel because they get delivered to the house where as the Cummins/Fleetguard would be a 60 mile round trip or mail order through someone like Geno's Garage.
You could continue to use the Wix if desired or you can check out the pricing on the Fleetguard and decide from there.
As for the K&N - There is one installed in the 92 that I sold to my Step Brother and no problems there and There is one installed in my 99 and have seen no problems there as well. If you do a search on K&N you will find many threads on this issue. Seems that the 2nd generation air box has more issues than the 1st gens. IMHO - Cleaning and sealing the K&N properly is the issue.

Thanks for the information. I can always count on this group to come through.

Hi GGraves
I too have a '93 and have always tried to stay on top all of my filters. I will switch to Fleetguard on my next fuel filter purchase. I am already using their LF3552 for my oil filter along with Amsoil 15W40 full synthetic. The fuel filter P/N is FS1232. I have used a K&N air filter for the last 100,000 miles with no adverse affects. This is supported by oil analysis showing that the filter is doing its job. I now have 119,000 miles on my '93. Hope this helps.
Happy Trails

If you ever see a wix and Fleetgaurd filter cut open side by side it would be a very easy decision. The fleet gaurd is a very quality filter. They also make a couple of higher grade filters also. Go in to fleetgaurd dealer and ask to see some comparitive literature. Also Case IH filters are mostly fleetgaurd and most case dealers are also fleetgaurd dealers as well as Cummins dealers.
