Well this you will not believe. As a lot of you know, I now own a 98 model quad cab now. I thought the fuel filter was the same on this as mine. Not so. What do I do to this canister to change the filter. I ordered 2 filters from Geno's and got 2 paper elements. What now?

Tom, if you have the same housing as the 99 you will loosen the nut in the center of the top of the housing. The bowl has the stud in it. Drain the filter housing through the water drain before to keep from making a mess. The bowl will then drop free of the housing letting you remove the filter element. Make sure the O-rings all come out of the housing and bowl. Re-install the new element after lubing the O-rings with clean diesel or motor oil. If you have a 24V 98 you can loosen the plug closest to the center of the housing and bump the starter until fuel comes out. If you have a 12V you can loosen the same plug and pump the primer bulb until you get fuel out. Tighten the plug and start it. It may stumble but it should run. If it dies and does not restart easily bleed the filter again and try it.

If you do not have the housing I am taking about none of this will apply. I think the 98 and 99 have the same housing though, so this should work.

Hmmm, a little research reveals the following:

http://dodgeram.org/tech/dsl/filter/99fuel_filter.htm actually here is the procedure I used on mine the first time, no problems. I did not have to disconnect the water sensor though, I never have had to either.

Guess what? There is a procedure for a 12V with the same housing. http://dodgeram.org/tech/dsl/filter/97fuel_filter.htm Whatever you have you should be covered now. Hope this helps.

Preston, I am pleased that I could help, and sorry about calling you Tom, more careful reading on my part should help.
