Filtering water for your RV

Question for those that have RV's/living quarters with potable water holding tanks. Do you pre filter the water before you fill the tank, only at the faucet, not at all or what? If you do filter what set up do you use/recommend and where do you recommend to filter? If you don't filter, does your holding tank get sediment in the bottom? How often do you clean it out?

I use a special white fresh water hose when filling my tank. Every year, I buy a new filter from a store like Camping World, and use it between the end of my hose and my coach when filling the tank. In addition, I have a filter for a faucet in the kitchen of my 5er.



I've never had a problem with sediment in the bottom of the holding tank, but I usually drain the tank prior to leaving for the return trip home. I do clean out the tank by adding a cup of bleech to a half full tank at the beginning of the season. Pull the trailer for a while, drain the water out, and flush the tank prior to using.

I use the System IV water filter outside and Everpure water treatment system for the under sink filter to a seperate drinking water spigot. Both from Camping World but other RV suppliers would have comparable filters.

The vast majority of our trips are short enough that we fill our water tank at home, and it will last us about 2 weeks of careful use. Otherwise, we use one of the hose-mount cartridge filter/purifiers available at RV stores for on the road fillups.

I do a cup of bleach to about three gallons water. Pump thru all outlets,let set for a few hours then drain . Refill tank,pump to all outlets then drain again.
