just bought an 03 4X4 HO with 6 speed and 30000miles. filterminder was showing 65% used but filter looked brand new kept resetting but it kept going to 65% again bought a afe seven layer filter and now the filterminder goes to 35% can anyone help me with this my 99 24 valve filterminder never moved thanks ronnie

You've got the old style minder with the weak spring. There's a TSB to replace it with a redesigned unit with a stronger spring.

Yeah, what rbattelle said. In one of the TDR issues they mention the TSB number for the fix. Apparently certain filter minders are calibrated incorrect so they drop sooner than they should.

Filter Minder

Go to your local Dodge dealership, and have them change out the filter minder. I had mine changed a couple of weeks ago. Like the others said the earlier 2003 CTD'S had the weaker spring, and would pull down quicker. The new filter minder part # is (53032749AB) this will be under warranty item. From my understanding this affects trucks manufactured up to February 2003.

any tsb #

i went to the dodge dealer today and they said they did not not know anything about this. i will take this part number to them and see if this refreshes their memory but does anyone know a number for this tsb to help them out with this? thanks ron

I was wrong abut the TSB. There might be one out by now, but the story in the TDR magazine didn't mention one. It was in issue 41 on page 49

According to the invoice receipt (customer copy) I received from them "the cause of the problem they listed is "Blocked" . I don't know why they used the term "Blocked". The minder was not blocked it just pulled down easily. The article in the TDR states miscalibrated filter minder "weaker spring". I told them that I did'nt think there was a TSB on it. I had no trouble with them replacing the miscalibrated filter minder. Take the article with you next time you go, along with the new part#(53032749AB).
