Filterminder Retrofit

I found a filterminder device I would like to retrofit to my 89. I understand if I screw this up I will suck something into my turbo and ruin it, so I thought I would run this by the forum first. Here are the steps I was planning on taking:



1. Drill a hole in the turbo inlet hose, past the filter. Clean out all debris.

2. Mount air fitting, with nut side out (green end). Use a nylon washer on inside and outside. A small amount of Permatex 66B clear rtv silicone adhesive sealant around hole before washers. Safety wire air fitting nut?

3. Use push in type black air tubing.

4. Mount filterminder to bracket near air filter.

My filter minder reads up to 35 inches of water (35 is in the "RED" replace the filter zone). Is this similar to a newer truck? Is this made to be read at idle? At what reading (15-20-25-30-35) should I replace the filter?

You can crop the pic's down to size in the Paint program in Windows. Go start>program>accessories>Paint.



When you get the Paint program open. Click on the "File" button then go to "Open". Find the location of the pic on your computer. After you have the pic open in Paint. Then click on "Image" then "attributes" . Set width and height to about 300 x 300. Then save to a folder somewhere of you choosing. Then attach here as you see fit.



The main thing would be make sure anything inside of the intake hose is secured from falling off and into the turbo. The way your talking about doing it should work.

Why not just thread the place where you are mounting the fitting and screw it into the hose... . use loctite to keep secure?

Then there is nothing inside that can ever come loose.

Did this when I installed a filter minder on my marine Cummins.

No matter how you end up doing it show us some finish pics.....

we like a story with a happy ending.

Yeah it would look nice but aslong as its not gonna leak and make you lose boost for something that has given many people incorrect readings when installing a high perf air filter. This falls under the 'make the engine compartment look neat', but the best filter minder is you, check it once to a couple times a year. Bill

Yep, the best filterminder is the operator

Filterminders also stick. Ex's dad had a 01 HO Dodge that the filterminder showed a clean filter, but it was sucking fuel, had no power, etc. Took the filter out of the housing, and it had a 1/2" of dirt on the bottom of it.
