Filters, hoses and Bio-diesel with the FASS

Just ordered the FASS full system today and look forward to installing it when it gets here. Thanks to all who helped me come to this deceision over the past couple of weeks.



I have a couple of more questions, hopefully that some one can answer.



1) The system comes standard with the 10micron filter, and u can get a 3 micron aftermarket. What is the micron rating of the stock filter that comes on our trucks. Obviously the 3 micron filters "better" than the 10 but is it nessecary? ALso our winters get pretty cold and would assume that the 10 would be better in the winter? The filters supposedly last for 30k, which would take me through 2 summers/winters.



2) Does anyone know if the hoses that come with the pump are compatable with Bio-Diesel fuel, which is increasingly more available in my area.

I think the OEM is 5. I just picked up to NAPA FIL1724 filters for my FASS (one is a spare). Cost $30 each and they are 2 Micron, always in stock at NAPA. Ran one for almost a year and changed it just because. I figure one year is enough. @ micron is small enough to filter Bacteria I believe

I think they are. The filter is actually a Hydraulic filter. That is what FASS designed it for. It scared me until I researched Hydraulic filters and found out they are nicer than fuel filters. A little more pricey but better protection. The filter is rated for several different liquids. Not sure about hoses but I think your OK. The hose is not rated for suction if I remeber correctly. I used a ss braided suction hose on the supply side to eliminate future collapsing. We run pressure hose on big gensets for testing and after several years and lots of abuse they can suck closed. Look fine on the outside but seal up on the inside under suction. I went with the safest route by using suction rated lines to feed my FASS. Just something to think about. As for your questions on sizes. Not sure about that I used AN fittings. Just showed my FASS to the fuel guy and he did the rest.

I like the BD Auxilary Lift Pump. It can be purchased on the Internet for $265. It comes with a Complete Kit for easy installation.

JCYRBOK unless all of the hoses and seals are 100% synthetic preferably viton, you could have an issue running high concentrations or b100. It eats rubber for breakfast!

Most I would use is B20, which is what alot of stations around here are going to. But most also still offer straight #2 also.

Aeroquip has told me recently that some of the hose taht was rated E for excellent with biodiesel last fall is not now. Many are now rated G for good. Not sure what FASS is using but even if they had a rating acceptable for biodiesel last year, lots has changed.

Braided Teflon can run B-100 all day long.

The G rated hoses are not suggested for anything over B-20 and some are not suggested for anything over B-5.

B20 won't affect your hoses at all in my experience.
