Fuel supplier...

I would definetly search for another supplier or do my own blending. I know what we run, our cloud and pour points, and innospec charts (which is a additive supplier, not a fuel supplier, they supply our lubricity additives).

Our ULSD has the same cloud and pour points as our old LSD, be advised, at cloud point the fuel is begining to gel, it is not gelled yet, it is the pour point where you lose your flow. We also use different cracking methods for our ULSD.

I have heard through the grapevine I wasn't the only one having issues... it was the fuel...

By blending I guess you mean "adding sufficient additive to prevent gel up"?????

That's what I have done so far... I really dosed up on Howe's in the past two tanks. But I just filled up with that same fuel  . To dumb to learn from my mistakes I guess... it's supposed to be around -10*F at home and -3*F here...

I'll definately get some regular winterized diesel before this weekend comes...

I live in ND and since 1999 I have run straight #2 diesel (get it at the truck stop) with PS white bottle and have had zero problems, starting, driving, no problems. I drive in -zero temps all winter, have driven in -35* many times, all as I said using straight #2 without any problems.

Daughter had surgery on 19th in Fargo ND. On the way home stopped at sta-mart truck stop to put on fuel. Thought I would try the bio, it is 5% blend. Got home with approx 4 gallons used out of full tank.

On 28th I took my camper to beulah ND. I knew it was going to be cold so i triple dosed with PS. I have never over dosed with additive. I started out at 4:30 AM temperature was -21*. Truck started fine, let it warm up for 15 minutes in neutral. Took off and drove slow for approximately 2 miles to warm things up. Then put the coals to her up to 65 MPH. 2 miles later she started gelling up, had to slow down to 30 MPH to keep going. Came out of gelling about 5 miles later and drove fine. Filled up at Carrington ND and about 60 miles later it started to gell again, pulled over and dosed it up with more PS and had no problems since, 450 miles.

Until they get the bio and ULSD thing fixed I will never use it again in the winter, summer would be fine I'am sure.

I would like to point out that in my previous trucks I also added my own straight vegetable oil without problems. In this truck have not used any straight vegetable oil. I really think it's the bio/ULSD blend thats giving problems. Just as "fueling around" a DTR member from minnesota said in another thread.

I had never had a problem before, even being in Maine in -30 temps and not adding an additive. I think ULSD is going to give us problems, especially in certain areas depending on the refining process.

I'am thinking it's more the bio/ULSD blend than just ULSD, at least I'am hoping. Have not heard of people having problems from gelling on straight ULSD around here, just the ones running bio/ULSD blend.

But, I'm supposedly not running bio around here... anything I got in MN should have been long since flushed out...

I think, in my case, it is the fact that I got a batch of non-winterized fuel versus winterized fuel...

Just throw a few of gallons of #1 in each tank at fill up, should suffice just fine. You can run straight #1, but it does reduce your mileage and power a tad.

So either something with the additives or something removed during processing is allowing the bio to come out of solution.

This was just confirmed by the refinery at around -15f this will happen.

Gonna run next door to WI and get fuel for my vehicles.

I just had a problem using normal ULSD. You can read about it here.
