Hello everyone,

I finally added some extra fuel filtration to my truck in the form of a pair of Donaldson filter heads and a 10 micron W/F seperator and a 2 micron fuel filter. I don't have a pressure gauge yet so I have no idea what my fuel pressure looks like at this point, all I can say is the truck is running great at this point. I will be adding a pressure gauge and a boost gauge at some point and I am wondering what most people see as "Normal" fuel pressure?

As a side note, the truck seems to be running better with the filters intalled but I think that may just be in my own head. :)

Is that kind of like how they run better after you wash them? LOL

Nobody can tell me what their (lift pump) fuel pressures look like on 6. 7, idle pressure at least? I want to get some sort of baseline since the filters are on and I haven't installed any gauges yet.

The MOPAR Severe Duty extra filter employs a water separator and a 3(?) micron filter prior to the existing filter and no mention (that I am aware of) of low pressures. Maybe we are are making too much of this issue. But I fully agree, guages provide much more data, and I am surprised also we don't have at least one suscriber that has recorded pre and post mod pressure numbers...

Thanks for the response, I looked at that filter kit and went with the assumption that if chrysler didn't upgrade the pump for their kit that I should be ok as well.

Yeah I just would like to know where the pressure "should" be on our trucks. I don't think I have any fuel pressure issues at this point since the truck is running well but if I put on gauges and see a pressure that is out of the ordinary I would like to know instead of assume its fine.

When the Common Rails were introduced Cummins went to fuel flow rate and forgot about fuel presssure but I'm sure there is a member that has pressure gauge on his truck.

CKelley1 has a fuel pressure gauge on his trucks. Try searching CKelley1 posts here on the forum. You could also search for posts by AH64ID for fuel filtration questions.

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT FUEL TRANSFER PUMPS AND FUEL PRESSURE.
We encouraged our sister company (the folks at the Turbo Diesel Register) to write about this subject. And write they did. It was a 14 page article that was published in Issue 56 of the TDR. The article was written about trucks from ‘94-‘07, and it covered everything from the correct fuel pressure; the importance of fuel pressure; how to remove and install a fuel transfer pump; and replacement options. With limited space, here is the summary. You can download a complete article from the Turbo Diesel Register Buyer's Guide at the link provided at the top of this page.

I have a 5. 9, but they use the same lift pump.

I have a 20um, 5um, and 3um filter inline and see about 8-9 idle, 6-8 cruise, 5-6 towing up a grade, 4-5 WOT at 2700+ rpms.

As long as your pressure is positive you have the flow required.

Thanks for the replies guys, thats the info I was looking for. Just needed a reference point to start with so I can keep an eye on things. I plan to keep a couple extra filters around so I can change them when I start to see pressures lower than normal.
