Engine idle & exceleration problems

I've finally completed and tested my own version of the popular secondary fuel filter kit we're putting on our 3rd gen rigs. I know there's a lot of debate over the actual filter that's used, but I've decided to stick with Fleetguard and it's the FF5320.
One detail with the popular kit, is the excessive use of rubber hose. I wanted to use steel line as much as possible, and I was able to when I found a wix filter head that has two each of in and out ports in the proper orientation. On one of the outs, I've incorporated a needle/ seat bleeder and a small liquid filled pressure gauge. I use inverted flare as the coupling method. There is one additional neoprene jumper hose not much longer than what was there to begin with. I have approximately 1000 miles on the setup, including an intense 550 mile in 3 day jaunt. I only need to take the bracket off, smooth it down and paint it, then it'll be done.

Thanks. I like working with that stuff. There was a time when I did a lot of hot rod fuel line work like that. I have the wix number but I gotta dig. It was on Amazon though. The fittings came from discounthose.com.

Looks great. I like the solid lines as well.
Looking to add a secondary filter btwn the stock canister and the cp3.
You've just given me another option approach.
Thanks

The line is 5/16. That's the size of the lines running along the engine. Durability of the gauge? I dunno. It is liquid filled, and I have a plug in the road box just in case. If it lasts longer than the BD lo pressure switch, I'll be impressed.

I just wanted to Oo. this to the front, and to drop a line about what just happened.
Yesterday, I was parking the rig and I noticed a skipping idle. Almost like the AC clutch was cycling but more pronounced and more frequency. I pop the hood and see the pressure gauge is a few # low, instead of hanging around 7#, it's >5#. Just now I changed both filters- hoping for the best!
The pressure is back and the idle is normal. Looks like the kit saved some junk from getting in. If you're still having doubts on a 2u filter kit- don't hesitate!

OK, I was all "gung ho" when I saw the nice job you did so I ordered the filter and the filter mount. I just looked at my engine
where you mounted yours and $&*t..... It's completly different.
Mine has a plastic cover which looks like the APPS cover on a 2nd gen not sure what it is but the filter can't go there. Do you have the
OEM filter canister and do you have an in tank lift pump? This job you did turned out very nice.

Thanks for the complement! Are we considering your sig truck, which is an '01? That would be a completely different setup, otherwise it sounds like it's an automatic truck with the APPS up on the engine. Mine is a 6 speed with the APPS under the battery. Yes mine is wide open in that spot, and that's why I decided to make my own bracket. I have a friend with the high APPS, and I'm encouraging him to make his own bracket, and it'll be a challenge. Yes, I have the OE fuel filter still in place, and I use the original style lift pump on the filter (it's not updated).

This is the kit you need to examine.

Good luck!

Thank's Wayne, No I just purchased an '04.5 auto and that's what had me confused. I was looking at your sig and thought that my truck should be the same so without looking at my engine, I bought the same filter and mount that you did.
Unfortunately for me the engine compartment in my truck is is going to be a challenge and I was wanting to do a really nice looking job.
