I have been fighting with trying to get a tach working in my truck for years! I finally found the problem tonight and thought I'd pass this on to anyone else that may be having the same problem. :)

The lead under the dash didn't seem to have a signal and I thought it was just because it didn't require a large signal and that I was just not measuring it right. Well, I got a new ECM a few months ago as a spare and tonight decide to swap it out for the old one. I have a NOS original factory tach I got last year from Adam in Klamath Falls (cumminz4 ever) and after I swaped the ECM out, found it was working right! Oo. It did not work on the old ECM.

So, if your tach lead is not working if you try to install a tach, it probably is the ECM.

Now all I have to do is get it mounted.

Hey Stan

What transmission are you running?I have a stock 93 and can't keep it together. This time reverse band tore up.

Thanks Mike

I have a modified 518. The transmission guy I use is an old friend of mine, I told him I needed it beefed up a little. He drilled out a couple of ports in the valve body(don't ask which ones cause I don't know!), installed a shift kit, said he put an extra disc in the clutch packs and increased the line pressure higher than it was originally. When I had him service it last summer he kicked the line pressure up even more.

This transmission seems to be holding up, I drive it pretty hard sometimes and so far all is well. It's been about three years since he rebuilt it. I was a little concerned when I put in the DTT 89% converter cause it doesn't slip as much and I figured that would increase the load in the transmission as well.
