Finally got my new tires installed. I went with the 305/70/16 Nitto Terra Grapplers. Same height as a 285/75/16 but wider. They fit perfectly on my stock 16x8 rims. Look great too! Tire shop had some trouble balancing them but they worked till they got it right.

Handling of the truck has greatly improved. It corners alot better due to the stiffer sidewalls and seems to be more stable. Can't tell any difference in acceleration. I thought with the taller tire I might feel a difference but none so far.

I put the tire through some light mud and sand and I was greatly impressed with the way the tire performed. Behaved like a tire with a more aggressive tread.

IMO this is a great tire and deserves a look if you are shopping for a new set of rubber. Here's some pictures. (Still trying to figure out the digital camera)

Those look great Charlie. I was hoping you'd spring for the 305/70s

Nice and beefy yet fit on the stock wheels perfectly. Makes your truck sit real nice and fill those wheelwells a lot better.

Others have reported great sidewall strength with these as well, it's good to know they're an improvement over the OEM Michelins (I assume that's what you took off).

Keep us posted on how they wear.

I wonder how they'd look on my 4x2? :p

Charlie- Are you noticing a difference in your speedometer? I am thinking of going to 285’s soon. How about rubbing of the front trailing arms on sharp turns with the 305’s?. They do look good on the vehicle. Good luck with ‘em. Thanks. –frank

When my stock tires are gone I was going to put some 285's on but those 305's look good. Good looking setup.

My speedo seems to be off about 3 mph with the new tires.

When I'm doing 65, GPS shows me going 68, at 70 Gps shows. No rubbing at full lock or during any articulation.

One word of caution. I saved my old Michelins to put on my trailer. I always checked the pressure in them and checked for any problems, but I guess I never really "looked" at them. It seemed somebody goofed at the factory and gave me 2 load rated "C" tires and 2 load rated "E" tires. Just something you might want to check.

those nittos look real good... . ! i thinks i will get some for my 04 ram that i will get next year [must think positively and set goals... :-laf]

Nittos n Toyos

Yep, them thar's good lookin'!:D

I've been looking at the Nittos and then at the Toyo Open Country A/Ts. I prefer a less agressive tread pattern (4x2), but I want a stiffer sidewall and a little more rubber on the road (for towing).

Evidently, the Nitto is basically the same tire as the Toyo, with the Toyo having more of a "highway" pattern. In any event, I think I'm going your route on size: 305/70x16 seems to be the right FIT!;)

Lookin good Charlie!!!

I love mine, they handle good and ride quiet. :) :) :)

FYI - After I put them on I weighed my baby and called Nitto for inflation guidelines. With almost #4300 the front end, they said 35psi. When I said #3000 on the rear, they said "we're sorry, but our chart doesn't go that low. " I set'em at 32 for now.

Well I know what size tire I'm gonna try next!!! Those look great ! The funny part to me is I was just gettin ready to call and order a set of tough country bumpers so I could pick-em up on my trip to see the family over thanksgiving! Those things look great!! Did they affect your ride or handling any? Did they drop the front of your truck any?

Hey Charlie...

Do you get any rubbing at full lock? I think mine does just a bit on the passenger side. I found in the y2k service manual that some of the trucks were supposed to have a spacer on that side. Hmmmmm.....

That'll be fixed when we level'er up.

Here's some picks, old to new...

I hated those Michelins, but they sure lasted a long time.

These looked really good, but rubbed a little and I didn't a lot of miles out of them, because you couldn't rotate them side to side since they were directional.
