As the title states, the "DEE" NV5600 is NO LONGER availble to order, and has been turned off from the dealer site

So ,as of now, there is no manual option available to order?

That is correct, it is physically(electronically wise) impossible to click "2bg" on the order screen... It is not even shown

Bummer, and no mention when the DEG will be available -- I DO know that the DEE orders that are already in the system will carry us through january 15th though

Sure am glad I got mine when I did. I can't speak for all auto manufacturers, but having worked at a DC plant, it seems as though when something was working, and going good, in the name of continous improvement it would be changed. :( My . 02. ;)

I'll tell you who I feel bad for: the employees at New Venture who will no longer be making our beloved NV5600. :(

I love that transmission... there's nothing like 400 lb of nodular iron under your right hand. Alas, the end of an era. Alas.

I'll echo the sentiments re being glad I got mine a few weeks ago when the NV5600 was still available. Is it still going to be built for other applications, I wonder, or will it just cease to exist?

Both the general and drof are using the aluminum cased ZF with poor shifting qualities (at least imho when I drove them a year ago). I also prefer the strength of the iron case--its supposed to be a truck transmission, not a ricer mixer.

Not to be contrary here, but who knows? The new transmission may shift better and prove to be just as tough. And for those of you who like the 1/4 mile, I think a faster shifting trans will be a good thing. The gear ratios seem better to me as well. Luckily my truck will last me long enough to find out if there are any problems with the new one.

But I have to admit, I love my 5600. I wouldn't trade it away anytime soon.

You're right, who knows what the G56 will be like. On the other hand the NV-5600 is/was a GREAT transmission. Can't help but think the odds are that it won't be as good, but here's to keeping our fingers crossed! I would be a little nervous getting a G56 right now without knowing if it's going to be a great transmission, a crappy transmission or somewhere in between. I could care less if it shifts faster, myself, but some people will. No matter how good it proves to be, I'll still miss the heavy cast iron NV-5600. The G56 has some very big shoes to fill.

In my opinion there's no point in changing a part unless the new one will be somehow "better" than the old. The question is, better how? If we look at the trends in the automotive industry to make vehicles smoother, quieter, easier to drive, and more affordable, then some combination of those traits are probably the G56's raison d'etre (sp?). So, I bet the G56 will be smoother, quieter, easier to drive, and cheaper to manufacture... also lighter in order to increase payload capacity.

Only question is, will it be as/more bulletproof than the NV5600? Time will tell. There's no question that the 5600 is held in high regard both by us and by our Chevy/Ford brethren. I wish all '05-up owners the best of luck with the new unit... I hope to test drive one some day.
