Sigh... . another reason to give my 04 305/555 4x4 DRW with no noise or vibration a big HUG. :) And the ball joints were intact at least as of this morning :D

Hey, have you heard about the 7 speed Mercedes Benz trannies that are replacing the NV5600s? :-laf

don't fix it if its not broken! the nv5600 is a great transmission.

Let me play devils advocate for a moment...

The non-intercooled cummins was not broke, but it was changed

The 12V motor was AWESOME (certainly not broke), but it was changed

The Vp44 was not... uhh, umm... I'll pass on this one

The Dana was not broke, but I love my new AAM's and their (helical grear)LSD

The nv4500 is great in my truck, But it was changed (discarded)

I just hope they know what they are doing... Has anyone found the highest HP that this G56 trannie has held in other applications?

Question for Joe Donnelly?

Hi Joe. I believe I read, here, that You changed Your gear oil on the NV5600 to Red Line. If so, how do You like it? Did You use the MTL or MT-90 or another oil? Did You notice much difference in the shifting quality or "notchiness" of the transmission? I've heard there is some concern that the chemicals in the oil can attack the yellow metals in the synchro's. Has Red Line addressed this problem? Any other thoughts or recommendations? Thanks, Joe.

Fresh oil is important, the Pennzoil fluid from Autozone is good. I used Redline MTL for one change and I liked it a bit better--smoother shifts--and may go back to it. I changed it 3 times at about every 5000-6000 miles during break in.

Tomeygun, remember that many of the changes were "inspired" by EPA regulations, such as the first gen intercooler, the 24 valve, and the beloved catalytic converter. DC had bad luck with the Danas, mostly in other vehicles, so they went to AAM. I like the AAM design better, and they seem to be holding up well. I just don't like the thin lube, so went to LE607 in mine.

Well I guess I will not order a new Dodge will wait a bit till I start hearing from G56 owners. I will just keep driving my Ford for another year

Understandble , when the 3 gens came out i was apprehensive at first , but caved in eventually. Hope it works out , time will tell .
