Finally made it around to Cummins

Hello all... I am really enjoying this forum since recently signing up.

I began my mechanical diesel journey 4 years ago.

Being a lifetime Chevy owner I gravitated toward the old 6.2 diesel platform once I decided that I wanted mechanical diesel.

Since buying my first diesel four years ago I have been around the spectrum of offerings.

I've owned 5 CUCVs & an air force crew cab square body all featuring the 6.2 engine. (Still have 2 of those 6)

I also had a '93 k2500 with the 6.5 turbo as well as a '85 f250 with the 6.9 & a banks turbo.

I briefly owned a '89 e350 box truck with the 7.3 IDI & a fun little '85 Mercedes 300d with the inline 5 cylinder turbo diesel.

Last fall I finally snagged my first Cummins powered rig... I bought a real nice '82 Chevy C30 crew cab dually that has a low mileage Industrial 6bt out of a 1993 model RV paired with a nv4500.

I quickly realized what all of the hype was about...I love the reliability & mechanical simplicity of this platform.

I decided to sell one of my k30 diesel Chevys last week & I replaced it with a '97 Ram 2500 4x4 nv4500 regular cab pickup this past Saturday... I had been looking at the truck for 2 weeks & decided to make a quick sale to make it happen.

Now I have these two Cummins powered pickups & I am excited to learn all that I can... I am an electrician by trade & I generally enjoy doing all of my own automotive repairs/maintenance.

I plan on singing up for the publication & would love to track down previous issues.
Is there a better way to obtain them than buying individual copies off of ebay?

Welcome to the Forum. Sometimes members from time to time sell off their old copies of the quarterly publication. I would check the classified adds on this forum. Also a paying member has access to the digital on line publications that are stored in the data base. Look at the left hand column for digital copies.
I would also review the first gen threads for known issues and the fixes that members posted.

I don't see much currently listed in the classifieds section but I will check back &/or create a want ad.

I just signed up for the yearly subscription & will check out the online materials once that gets processed.

What general area are you in? I bought a set a few years back from a local person. Can look up what I paid.

Bunch of folks get rid of them maybe every 6months you will see a pretty complete set.

But yeah scroll down to the bottom and click on the digital magazines button and they pop up.

I see a number of them on Ebay for $8 each with a few lots of them.

I am on information overload right now & have been watching videos & scouring a variety of forums...
Some articles would be a nice change of pace.

I was happy to find that '97 with the 5 speed & 215hp P-Pump!

The '97 definitely needed some love... the headlights aren't working so I'm going to look at the switch & multi function switch.
It also needed a radiator, axle U-joints, new battery cables, & a few other things.


The '82 Chevy definitely gets some looks in traffic.
I wanted to keep with the sleeper look so no badges at all... there is a 4" exhaust bellowing out that beautiful turbo diesel exhaust note which gives it secret away.

One cool thing on my swapped Chevy...the engine is marked as a 1992 & came out of a 1993 RV but it also has the p-pump.
I had read that they were available on some of the 'Industrial' applications before they started putting them on dodges in 1994.
