Well I have a 99 2500 with 100000 miles and a BD X brake with DTT smart controller that goes to 30 mph in drive and 20 in 2nd gear. Cruising in traffic with brake on and in 2nd and 20 mph with 2500 lbs slide in and a new white big Toyota pickup slides in front of me and the whole line in front of us STOPS. Brake saved my bacon on that one for sure. The old Dodge would have CREAMED him and my front end also. PAID for now. Free from here on out. A golly good investment for sure.

Great post.

After driving from Atlanta to Nashville and back loaded both ways with 8500-9500 lbs, I was really wishing for a PXRB on some of the long downhill sections. I had one incident where I was going up a long 6% uphill in the middle of 3 lanes. A semi was merging from the on ramp to the right lane and a Chevy Tahoe got impatient with following the semi, so he quickly moved to the center lane... right in front of me. I hit the brakes so hard the trailer brakes locked down. I had to downshift from 6th to 3rd when I was able to get back into the power. The only real good part was that I was able to take an opening in the left lane and pass the Tahoe with him on my right... going uphill... loaded... with enough time to click my Juice from level 1 to 6. Wife was not happy with the ensuing smoke show. But it make me feel better. I did a pretty fair job of filling his climate control with NOx and PM. A waste of fuel for sure, but it made me feel better.

I guess that's a long, way off course story for a "I love my EB" thread. But this just happened yesterday and I had to tell someone who would understand.

Turbo terry

did you install it your self or have someone do it ?

what was your final cost. ?

have you done any rear brake up grades?

thank you

chris

I had it installed when the truck was fairly new. It has not given me any trouble and has saved my brake pads. I have carbon metallic pads in the front. Also its a great truck warmer upper on cold mornings when plate is closed. Cost was something south of $ 2 k but as stated above was money very well spent. I believe the new trucks come with exhaust brakes from the factory.

Ditto.

With the pitiful brakes of the pre-rear disc 2nd. gens. an exhaust brake is a necessity. I had a DTT,Smart Controller, and a lighter popup slide-in on the 98. 5 and my Pacbrake sure came in handy.

I had to blow an intersection at 25mph a few years ago pulling 24k total. Brakes over heated and I had no way to stop. Come to find out the new axles under the trailer had been wired tight with solderless butt connectors... First bump in the road disconnected the trailer brakes.

I also got into a bad decent in Arizona coming out of Utah. That was one tall cliff!

I put an EB on and have had no problems since. Love it! No more chancing it for me.

4 wheels discs aren't always enough.

All true (Warmer upper ,EGT keeper upper when parked in winter, Pad saver , helps empty or loaded) I did my BD Remote 4" brake along wih a smart controller in '02 and the brake and controller was North of 2K at the time. If you are going to do a brake do something that can grow with the truck like a remote for instance. It isn't turbo mounted but is more so under the aft end of the passenger seat.

4" lets you keep your exhaust upgrades, being independant of the turbo you can also do turbo upgrades. Heck if I am not a shining case with a garrett turbo, 4" exhaust and dual 7" stacks ... with the stacks it sounds like Thor sneezed which startles the church folk :-laf
