Best Exhaust Brake?

Alright, got a question for all you guys with exhaust brakes, which one is best in your opinion(s)? Also, do I need to change my exhaust valve springs if I install one?

Any Input is appreciated

I believe the age of your truck will rquire stronger exhaust valve springs to run an exhaust brake. I think the stronger springs started showing up as standard in 1998.

Check with a good dealer service guy to be sure.

You can get a Pac-brake set up for the 35 lbs springs . But it will not give the same braking . Other like DB may have the same thing to offer don't know . But call or on web ask Pac-for more information. www.Pacbrake.com Ron in Louisville KY

60# springs

Both Rons are right. The 60# springs are advisable no matter what brake you get. If the 35# PacBrake should somehow malfunction and your backpressure goes over 35 psi, hello bent valves. You will get better braking with a 60# brake and if you ever add governor springs for higher RPM limit, you will need the 60# springs. (My $. 02 and that's all it's worth!)

I have the BD exhaust brake on my 94' and the first year it was installed I only had the original valve springs(35 lbs. )installed. After a year of use, I came upon a great deal for the 60 pound springs, so I installed them at that time, and have been more than pleased with the performance of this brake system. I too pull a large boat (25 ft cruiser) and can't imagine not having an exhaust brake!

Outlaw. It's perfect for the lake I live on. I hate to think how

much fun it must be to play on Lake Michigan! I wouldn't own

a little 25'er if I had that much water to tame. You made a good

choice getting the Powerquest. Perfect big-water powerboat!

My favorite engines too (actually 2nd, the new 575SCi's are

wicked nice but Mercruiser is too $$ Proud of them!)



I have a question about one of your images. What the heck is

the Bensonford2 doing aground? I am guessing that it is a

restaurant or something. Looks like a big freighter got stuffed

into the woods! Nice pics. I love your garage!

That thing is someone's house, I always thought it looked pretty cool whenever I go out to Put-In-Bay I have to go check it out again. Home and Garden TV featured it once on "Outrageous Homes" on Sunday nights, it was pretty cool inside ,too .

Glad you enjoyed the pics!! Going for my last cruise of the year today with the boat, always sucks to put it away, but the end of March will get here soon enough(recommisioning time)! Can't wait to tow it, I just installed a #6 TST plate in the truck, and I think it will really help the performance(not that it was bad before)as long as I don't tear up the clutch and 5th gear!!
