Don't know Greg they are some pic's that were on a Photo Forum that I belong to. We were in town the other day and looked in a shop while the wife did her thing in a Girly store and I picked up these untill I looked at the price. Make some of these the gal at the store said she cant get enough of them they sell so fast.

My first set!

I'm learning this from a Maker that has been doing Bits, Spurs and Saddles for decades. This set was my first project. A good Friend is a real Wyoming Cowboy with a set of generic modern made parade Spurs. I told him I would attempt to add some personal character to those spurs and if he didnt like them I would replace them. His themes were Saddle Broncs, gambling and Indians. So I built arrowhead shanks, added brass foundings of a saddle bronc rider over a Nickel shield and a hand cut card suit and nickel arrow shank overlays. The rowels are overlaid and hand shaped. I am still learning the engraving. I did some on these spurs. Most was detailed out by my Mentor.
The owner was really overwhelmed by the spurs. These were a gift and I presented them to him just before Christmas of 2010. Even His Wife had something good to say
He and I worked together for many years and became good friends. He was my Welding Inspector and QA/QC!

BIG! Thanks for the kind compliment! I enjoy working with metal. However, the biggest Blessing is that I get to spend time with an Old Friend and Mentor who may not have much longer to live! (If we can even guess?) He will be 75 next month and has died clinically, 3X and has a pacemaker. I've known him more than 30 years. I only get to spend a couple of days a Month(presently) with him in his shop. However, it is a GOOD Time for both of us! Besides work, we drink at least a gallon of Coffee, make sparks and have a ball! GregH

BIG, Both ways. The two sets pictured are NEW refurbs. Gotta start somewhere.
I am presently making a set from scratch (been on that for almost 11 months, SORRY ) I have lots of family responsibilities so it goes real slow. Cant break away often enough to keep the momentum going. However, I have one set of irons almost ready for overlays and another roughed out and ready to forge the heel bands and attach the shanks. Making the rowels range from simple to very complicated.
My big chore is getting consistent with the engraving. Presently only "Texas style". I'd really like to learn "gun engraving". Maybe some day?

These are something from the cowboy days that I find indispensable. Well at least the wife dont have to cut all my shirts down to short sleeve after hunting season.



When I tie down the Mules gear the rope's cut into my hands and RIP A NEW SHIRT TO SHREADS in no time at all. The folks that we give the Elk and Deer skins to made me some wrist cuffs like in the day of the cowboy and it sure saves the shirts from the rope's. They also make me gloves I dont like to use them for tie down but they are a Savior on the hands and surprisingly tough. I wish I could do something like this but I couldn't stand the smell. They tan the hides and you can smell their house from a 1/2 mile away makes me sick for a day after we go there.

BIG, Those Cuffs and Gloves are NICE! I dont do much with leather. Just learning about the tools, tooling and care is another life's work! GregH

Those are from their catalog they wanted to put some fancy tooling on them but the use is totally utilitarian for me and the gang would not be impressed. The gloves are the best they usually give us 2 or 3 sets like I said I dont like to use them for that kind of work but they said we can make more. I go thru 1 pair a season and keep the others for town type wear they are really nice when they fit YOUR HAND They make a pretty good living doing this kind of work they are very good at it.

Let me know when they makes some gloves with wool sewn to the palms. I'll buy a dozen

They do put liners in the gloves that we have for other than work things they are super warm but a little bulky for anything other than keeping you hands warm. The thing I like about these is that they fit. I have big hands and cant find gloves that let me spread my thumbs away from the rest of my hand without restriction when they make these the make a print of my hands on paper and use that as a template. When the put the liners in they make them just a tad bigger. They make them for other companies I thought that was weird but if it makes money thats what they are in it for.

That sounds nice but I was requesting some wool on the outside palm. Don't want to get a grip on it during the cold months without some comfort
