Have any of you guys tried this product? It looks pretty cool except that if you have any disgruntled friends it could lead to disaster #ad
. How firm is the lever that opens the valve? How far does it protrude down past the oil pan?

Cliffman,

I have one on my truck. I installed it on the first oil change at 5,000 miles. I have about 9800 on it now and it hasn't leaked a drop. It protudes about an inch below the pan. It does take some pressure on the lever to get it up over the latch to open it. I'll probably change the oil sometime this month around 10,000 miles.

As far as disgruntled friends, they can do just as much damage by putting something besides diesel fuel in the fuel tank or punch a hole in your bottom radiator hose.

Hopefully, I don't have too many disgruntled friends.

Bill

. This thing sounds great. The only other thing I would worry about is going off road or climbing over a fallen tree where the branches could snag that lever. If I understand your description correctly you have to lift up towards the oil pan and then pull back with some force. Sound like this would be difficult for a branch to accomplish #ad
. Sounds like your pulling some serous weight with that truck of yours. How does it pull that bad boy. I'm pulling 22,400 GVW totally stock. But not for long #ad

. Oh yah, I got the bug.

Cliffman,

After the VA box, I'm a happy camper!!!

I just got back from May Madness. We traveled out to Minden on I-80 and came back on I-40. On I-80, we encountered headwinds of 30-40 MPH and with a 5er that is 11'3" high we had to move some wind. I could maintain 60-65 MPH on the highway and never got below 50 MPH in 5th(direct) gear on any of the grades in that kind of wind. I keep the RPM above 2,000.

Don't ask about fuel mileage at those speeds!! Performance is my primary concern--fuel mileage is secondary. I am willing to pay for the performance in fuel mileage. The big block gassers I've had couldn't perform this well and we all know how they drink fuel.

This is the first truck of many(I have been towing travel trailers or 5th wheels since 1970), Chevy, Ford, and Dodge, that I feel confident enough to take anywhere I want to go with the 5er. I now have the ultimate tow vehicle!!!

That's all the "Bombing" I plan on doing. If I do anything else, it would be change the turbo housing and go to a 4" exhaust system. Right now I don't plan on doing that since my EGTs don't run over 950 measured on the PacBrake fitting. I can really "stand" on the throttle and get it higher, but it isn't necessary. Shifting down and going a little slower is much cheaper!! Easier on the drivetrain too!!

As you can tell, I am very pleased with my truck.

Bill

Clifton,
You may want to look at the EZ Drain Plug in Geno's garage. I got it over the finger touch as it removes any doubt that the thing will come open and it has a handy drain tube you can get to stop the mess.
Also, in your area there is a lot of guys with Rams and they have one of the most active Ram owner groups I have seen. Also they all have been bombing for sometime, so would be a good group to hook up with.

I agree with Mike. I purchased one of the very first low profile EZ Drain plugs from Geno's Garage. I wouldn't trade mine for anything! I have yet to spill a drop of oil during an oil change with this plug. #ad

Hey guys, Waz uuuuup. #ad

That was my other choice, the EZ Drain Plug. No muss no fuss. Just plug it in and let it drain #ad
. Thanks for the feedback. I like the no mess setup. I'm about to go to my first RAMRUNNERS meeting here in wonderful San Jose. Although I’ve been a TDR member since 95 I was not aware of a Ram Club until I got on the net. I'm really looking forward to meeting all the great guys in the (as my wife would say "the ram nuts”) club.

Cliffman & etall, I got the one-touch and w/25K+ have had only one minor problem (got it at LongBeach in Dec). Musta hit it on a rock or?? and it was hard to open. Had to rmove it and "round" it out. Still not leaking and works gud. Would probably goto the other drain from Geno's if this one "acts" up again. If I was 4 wheeling, would definetly look for a "skid plate" to protect it.

Just my 0. 015$ worth.

SOTSU!!
