Finished installing my Pac Brake PXRB today

The install was pretty easy. Worked on it a few hours on Saturday, and a few today. Upgraded my exhaust to a full 4" system in the process. I got a 4" outlet brake and downpipe for a 04. 5, a MBRP replacement muffler kit and a 5' stick of 4" pipe and some band clamps. Sounds pretty good in the shop, havent driven it yet. I still have to install the R/F inner fender and tire. Took some photos tonight.



The first is looking down on it. Next is through the fender and last the compressor.

Who did you but it from? I need a 4" inline PRXB for my '02.

Yes, that is where they say to put the compressor. It fits pretty well there.



I got it from Jim at Pacific Clutch and Brake, he goes by Jelag on this board. Pm him, he will get you a heck of a deal.

I've had mine on for about 6 months now. I don't know what I did without an exhaust brake.



Overall, it took about 4 hours to install (and that's not rushing at all). Everything fit exactly as shown. I got it for under $1000 buck with a shifter switch and tank form Jim. Good man to deal with.

Is the compressor good for anything other than the brake?

You can get a airtank to go with the compressor to use for airing up small things, You wont be able to inflate a full size tire with it.

could the air tank hold enough to possibly power a train horn, cause if so that would be awesome.

Well I got my install about 85 % done... just have some wires to hook up. . I wish pac-brake would have cleared up a few of the install steps... I could not for the life of me get the bands that hold the brake in place back on... . I tried for about 45 minutes... then tried using a floor jack to hold the pipe up... FINALLY i got it on... . the compressor bolts are another good one... the one next to the motor you cant get a wrench on it! but other than that... its pretty easy... FYI to all!

Looks good... I mounted my air compressor inside the air box!!!!!!!!!! Sideways. Works perfect!!!

Guy, I've never tried a train horn... but 2 of my trucks have large air horns and the tank does well with it... . after all, your only giving the horn a toot or two... . and I have several customers running air bags with it as well... .



I've never thought about running the compressor in the air box... . interesting... I'm going to have to look into that... .



The problem with the exhaust is that when they install the exhaust at the factory they have a large tool that hold the pipe into place and it might be twisted... . on some of the installations we end up taking the exhaust loose 2/3 of the way back and let it hange and sort of untwist itself... then we us a block of wood and a jack to raise it to the exhaust brake..... get the clamp tight



AND REMEMBER to check it again in 200 miles or so. . both clamps will need to be torqued. . but if the front clamp is loose (turbo to brake) you'll loose performance.....

I took my dually in for the 3750 oil change and the dealer told me a Jake Brake installed would be $1900. If the installation doesn't involve any machine work then could Joe-Average do the install? I have lots of help from friends too. Where is the place to buy a Pac Brake again?

I asked why the compressor is mounted in such a obvious place and was told they used to mount it elseware but Pac found that in very cold climates, it would freeze up.

Mounting it on top allows the block heater to keep it warm enough.

Has anyone else with a Pacbrake have problems with the relay? I'm on my 4th relay and it is starting to go bad as well. What happens is the relay doesn't disengage and the compressor keeps running. If I lightly tap the relay, it shuts off.

J Mitchell, I got mine from Pacific Brake and Clutch. Send a PM to Jelag, he is on this forum, he will give you the hookup! They are not that hard to install, basic wiring skills, and common sense with tools and you are all set.

No, I haven't had any problems with mine. I have had it on for about 9 months now and use it everyday. No problems with the relay.



Seems odd to have 4 in a row go bad...
