Since Santa didn't bring me one I got it anyway. Not to happy with the install I did. The wiring part was sweet, friend gave me a 7 pin trailer plug with like 10' of wire. I soldered all connections, heat shrinked each solder, taped, wire loomed and tucked up nice and neat. But, no matter where I placed the bar it either was too high to be seen and hit the tail gate when open, or too low and interfered with the spare tire tool hole.



It's those "simple" jobs that get me sometimes - Murphy's Law and all that??? :{



So, I trimmed the tool hole (oh baby :-laf ) to provide lower fitment and it still hit the tail gate lip when opened. Ended up screwing it on because I had to remove the sticky pads (which popped right off - even though I cleaned the entire area of all dirt etc, then wiped with alcohol and followed with a magic cloth) and it still hit. Had to lower left side so it wouldn't hit gate - now it looks like the left side is lower than the right :{ .



Can't understand *** I did and how so many of the folks that have them said the install was a piece of cake? Definitely missed something in that department



Any ideas what's going on.

I ended up using a very sticky type tape to hold it on. I don't have mine showing the dots. It throws the light up into the space for a more subtle effect. On;y really works with a white truck.

I just placed mine on top of the license plate bracket. yes it covers most of the hole for the spare. but I used self tapping screws to hold mine on. if I need to, I will unbolt it. that makes it just about perfect. tailgate doesnt hit it and its not too low either.

Heres how I did mine, I attached it to the bottom of the tailgate lip. Works great,it does not rub on anything...

You can see the black plastic that wraps around the bottom lip of the tailgate, you can use double side tape or really small sheet metal screw.

I used the screws and since the sheet metal of the tailgate is double folded on the bottom lip,they did not come out the backside of the tailgate.

Mine isn't the Fire and Ice. It's a standard all red one. It's the long one which wouldn't fit under the tailgate lip.

Mine is not the Fire and Ice,just the all red one also. Maybe take another look to see if it will fit.

Glue it to the bottom of the tailgate if you plan to use youre spare. I put mine over the hole.

See I know I thought way to much. I think I'll relocate mine to the tailgate and maybe even install a plug so if I want to remove the tailgate I don't botch up the wires.

Mine is not the Fire and Ice,just the all red one also. Maybe take another look to see if it will fit.

There are two different lengths. 49" and 60" You must have the shorter one.

I guess it's the way you mounted it on the lip. I tried mounting it inside to throw the light back into the space but the end hinges got in the way.



I like your method for keeping it away from the spare tire hole. I just don't like the red dots and preferred the solid glow. Just my preference which often can be weird.

I had trouble with mine because my LineX was sprayed down where it was supposed to attach. I put it on, and a few days later it fell off. Luckily, it fell in the gap behind the bumper and stayed there. I then went to an auto supply store and got some good double sided emblem tape. It covers the spare tire hole, so I need to find a way to adapt something to allow me to get the spare down without taking it off. My backup light isn't hooked up yet. I keep hearing about possible problems with the '06 electrical system when you add stuff to it. Anyone know the easiest way to hook up the backup light without problems?

I heard about the same electrical problems on the '06. I just took a chance, used a Scotch Lock Barrel T-Tap covered in dielectric grease and tapped the reverse wire at the left tail light.

I didn't check the current draw of the LED backup light but I'm sure it is very small! F. Y. I. The lights look good but are not bright enough to give ANY help in backing up!!!

Anyone put one of these in the "valley" that is about 3-4 inches up from the bottom of the tail gate on the outside? Lookes like it would fit nice and might even look stock. U would need to splice in a plug so you could remove tailgate if needed, but that would not be hard.



If anyone has mounted theirs in this location post a pic, this is where I am thinking about.

Just got my Fire and Ice light bar today and was very pleased to see that it is quiet abit better maid that I thought that it would be. Looks like install should be pretty straight forward other than avoiding the spare tire winch hole, which sounds like it is hard to do, if u mount it under the lip of the tailgate. Anything else I should keep in mind?



Only question is which wire is the "hot wire" to the reverse lamp that needs to be tapped for the light bar? Truck is a 01. 5 if that matters.

Is the center pin on the 7 pin recepticle in the hitch for the reverse lights? On a diagram I just looked at it appears to be, but I have never wired a 7 pin myself. If it is I will just tap the reverse light at the 7 pin harness, which would be easy.

You should be able to tap the center pin. Im not sure what color wire it is. I just went to my lr tail light. when I hard wire it I plan on tapping the trailer harness.
