Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Fire!

So my friend brought me her truck after the starter caught on fire. Its a 95 3500 dually 4WD with a manual trans. It runs fine now but there is no 4WD. I found two burned vacuum lines just above the starter that I'm sure work the actuator. I found the gray one hooks to a T on a line running across the cowl. My problem is there is a green line running in the same loom but I don't know where it goes. Can anyone tell me where it needs to run to?

Well now I heard the green line is an exhaust that should have a one way valve on it and doesn't hook to anything. Sound right?

Yes that does sound right. I believe its just a vent with some type of filter or cap on the end of it. There should only be one vacuum line running from the cowl down behind the engine to the top of the trans.
What happened with the starter did it hang up?

No broken fuel gauge and she loaned it to a guy who ran it out of fuel and cranked it over until it blazed. I've been trying to convince her to spent the dough to replace the dending unit for years.

Sounds like she needs to keep the keys out of bozo's hands. I can't imagine cranking a starter long enough to set it on fire.

We live and learn. My wife has loaned her car twice and both times it came back with something caved in. Same group of brainless friend. Thanks for the reply though. I have a friend with a repair shop that has a computer progran that would have answered my question long ago but he was busy towing crashes so I figured I'd try here.

Hopefully the fire didnt damage any part of the engine harness or anything else. Good luck with the repairs

Well I found the lines with the valve on it at a salvage yard, connected it all with a little vacuum line and it works fine. Thanks
