How Mac users REALLY feel!

Well it happened. The Boundry Waters Canue Area Wilderness is on fire. It was started by lightning.

For those of you who don't know what the BWCA is... . It's a wilderness camping area that allows no engines of any kind. It has virgin lakes, streams and rivers.

That being the case, there are no roads, no towns, no... . nothing. It is pure wilderness. The problem being, that's also the only way to fight this forest fire. The Forest Service has people canueing in to fight the fire. They also have Helicopters and Planes dropping water.

It's pretty wild. What I have been told is you can see the smoke across Lake Superior from the U. P. Michigan!

This comes from decades of neglect. Years ago, a large group of people wanted to go in and clean up fallen and decayed trees. Well, the treehuggers put a stop to that. Good call on their part.

A few years back when I was working helitack (CDF) we did a mutual aid call to the lava beds national monument. We all pile out with our handtools but before we could get to work the park people come up and tell us to hold off. Something about not having done the studies yet and we might harm something if they didn't escort us around. We never did do any work, just packed up and left. At least up there there isn't that much to burn anyway.

Let it burn baby!!! Nature is taking care of it, and thats what the tree huggers want.

Now, they can go look at the charred ruins, and see what they have accomplished.

I went up to the shore to measure for some cabinets. We could see the smoke way before we got to Lutsen. What did they expect when it all blew over in the windstorm and they wouldn't let anybody take out the deadfall. It was bound to start on fire sometime. I have to agree with you Gene, let r burn, if the tree huggers want nature to take it's course, let it take it's course. We're finally getting some rain, we really need it. It's been dryer than a popcorn fart here for a long time. Hopefully nature will put it out so out tax $$ don't have to.
