Just installed the Firestik fender mount and now have a whistling noise while driving. When I removed the mount the noise was gone. Seems like the air passing over/under the mount when driving causes the noise. Anyone else have this problem and solved it? TIA

can't say that I've ever heard my Firestik whistle, but then again, I'm usually in a state of bliss from the turbo shrill and Cummins rattle :D :D

I've had the Firestick fender mount on 2 different Dodge trucks and have had it mounted in two different places(close to the cab and the second fender bolt away from the cab to clear the cab-over on a slide-in camper) with no noise. I use a stainless steel antenna(non Firestick brand). Some of my TDR friends are using the Firestick fiberglass antenna with no complaints about noise. Try changing the antenna.

If you don't want to change antenas buy some clear plastic tubing of the appropiate inside diameter and length and slip it over the antena. Kind of like dodge does with the black plastic sheath over the radio antena. This got rid of the noise on my Dads truck. (4 ft Firestik). I have a 3 ft Firefly no noise from it.

I think Bill Stockard has the answer. I removed the antenna, it is a Francis fiberglass one that is thinner than a Firestik. There was no whistle. Guess I will be looking for a 4' Firestik antenna, I have a 5' one but the instructions for this mount say not to use one over 4'.

i have dual firestik antaneas with the under the hood mounts. i dont have no noise. i do have a bug shield with out the eye brows that would change air flow. just a thought.

How do you like the dual mount?Any gaine or loss with that configuration? I'm considering it... . Rick

I also have a bug shield but do have the eyebrows. Don't think they have any bearing on it as the noise went away when I removed the antenna so it isn't the mount causing it. I will try it with the 5' Firestik and see if it makes the whistle. If not then I'll be looking for a 4' one for sure.

rick,

to tell you the truth i dont know that much about it but as far as talking to other people they do tell me that i am putting out quite well. and i seem to be able to recieve real good also. never really tried the single mount so i cant really judge it. but i can say that i am pleased with the setup.
