I have electrically installed my isspro transmission temp gauge (single pillar mount). Took me longer than I thought, but it's in and hooked up to the dimmer (thanks to all the info I gleanned from this forum). Looks great, now all I have to do is make it functional. I have to punch through the firewall and I'm not sure where is the best place to do this is. I've searchedthis forum, and poked around under the dash, but so far I'm undecided. There is a small (maybe two inch) opening straight up from what I believe is the transmission cable (auto). This is to the left of and up from where the steering column exits the firewall. This opening has some foam or something over it. I'm thinking this is where I should drill a hole through the firewall to exit my sending unit.

My concern is:

Is this the best place?

What size bit works best (if any of you have done this already)

How do I insulate the hole afterwards and protect the sending unit wire?

I'm going to do the Mass Diesel line as to placement.

What I did was removed the plate where the clutch master cylinder would bolt and cut a little notch out of it so the wires would go through then put it back. If you look under the dash above and to the left of the brake peddle you will see 2 nuts that hold the cover in place. Hope this helps

On my '04 305/555 with the 48re, I went through the opening which would have been used for the clutch if mine were a manual trans. The connector on the Isspro requires at least a one-half inch hole. I sealed mine with some high temp RTV.

My guages use the same access cover plate as Lightman. I have used this access for all gauages, Juice/Attitude monitor and XZillaraider control switch. Perfect if you have the auto trans. Remove the 2 nuts, remove the plastic plate and drill a hole and put it back.

Thanks to all for the info, I'll do it tomorrow. Do you need to put a cable harness (shroud) around the sensor wire for protection?

How do you seal the opening tight so no draft or noise comes through?

Putting the split loom plastic conduit helps with protection of wires and gives a more factory look to me. If you drill your hole close enough to diameter of the split loom it may have a pretty tight seal anyway or use some RTV black or clear silicone for it to be water tight if you want.

I just drilled a small hole through the plastic clutch plate ran my hoses for the boost and fuel pressure and the wires for the the trans temp and pyro through it then after I was sure every thing was all right I used a little bit of clear sealer to seal up the small hole.

I just use a short piece of bigger split loom and electrical tape to go around what every is going through the hole. This seals enough and makes it easy to change or add what is going through the access hole.

Hello. I saw the post about drilling a hole through the clutch plate or plug as you say but I guess I didn't do it right. It broke in two while re installing it. Do you know what the part number is so I can order a new one.
